| Week 11 5/12-5/18 |
What a disappointing week. I thought I was set up to run really well at ECAC and extend my season by a week. I don't know what happened, my legs weren't under me. This week was low mileage, I may have procrastinated too much on the paper though. In any event, a disappointing end to a good season, but I've got a lot to work towards now. May Miles: 139 | 46 |
| Saturday: | No running today, just gonna take it easy for awhile. | 0 |
| Friday: | ECACs, bad race. Got out well, legs started screaming so I backed off. Was running 75s, legs didn't want to pick it up. Horrible race. Ah well. So my season's over now. No cool down. Gonna take a lot of time off, then start building it up for XC. Mroe detail coming in the RACES section. | 4 |
| Thursday PM: | After sitting around at ECACs for about 4 hours, I went for an easy 3M, but my legs were not liking it. They were aching and screaming, but they loosened up during the stride at the end. Hopefully tonight will get them fresh and ready to roll. Did some easy hurdle work, gotta get that right tomorrow. | 3 |
| Thursday AM: | Nothing today. Sleeping >> Morning Run, and besides, I'm tapering. | 0 |
| Wednesday PM: | Fake Fresh Pond. Legs got more tired as the day progressed, unfortuately. Run was pretty uneventful, just wanted it to be over so I could get home and go to bed. The wind sucked out there today. Did a whole bunch of hurdle drills again, Coach says it's getting better, so that's good. Discovered I can't do 10-12s when I lead with my left, HAVE to keep that in mind during the races. Seriously, I was stepping on the barrier with my heel and slipping off, NOT cool. Legs are in that state where you know one really good night's sleep is gonna make them feel awesome. I love taper. | 5 |
| Wednesday AM: | Legs felt pretty good, pretty rested. Hopefully I'll get a really good night's sleep and get them real fresh and ready to rock. | 3 |
| Tuesday PM: | 6x4 65, 7, 6, 7, 6, 7 (window 66-7); 2x4 over hurdles 68, 9 (69-70). I was feeling pretty good for this workout. I lead all the 67s. I think that Nolan is better at holding a pace like that than I am, he clipped off the 66s. Over the hurdles my hips are still dropping, Coach say's I'm working too much as I'm goving over them, its not as fluid as it ought to be. Roach accused me of ducking him today. That kid is paranoid. | 8 |
| Tuesday AM: | Legs a little tired, but the run felt alright. If only this paper would write itself.... | 3 |
| Monday PM: | Fresh Pond with Nolan. Raining all the way. Its been raining since this morning. Nolan must have been feeling pretty good because he kept pushing the pace. Me, I'm content to chill for the next few days. After the run Coach and I spent 45 mins doing various hurdle drills. Problem is with me dropping my hips over the hurdle. I think the key is to lean over my lead leg while still keeping my head up. | 7 |
| Monday AM: | In an effort to cut mileage, I'm throwing it back to the Boston Common loop this week for AM runs. Haven't done those since Nov. Legs feel good, full of energy. If only this paper would get written........ | 3 |
| Sunday: | Low 50s and raining. This is supposed to be May? Oh well. Ran Docks today, got away from the river for once on a Sunday. Run felt fine, just chilling basically the whole way. Not much going on really, now is the time to sharpen, not improve. I wound up 29th in the nation, as listed by raceberryjam. Thats nice, but 29th ain't gonna take me nowhere. Focus this week is on getting final paper done on The Grapes of Wrath then resting for ECAC, then busting out a fast time. | 8 |

| Week 10 5/05-5/11 |
This week was pretty tough academically, a lot of stuff due, because of MIT's rules. Anyways, I think I managed to stay rested somehow, and the focus was definitely there for this race. Even though Coach called it "horrible" because of my form, I got up and raced guys, just gotta get the hurdling down. The workout this week was awesome too, smashed out some good times with Nolan on that. May Miles: 95 | 64 |
| Saturday: | All New Englands @ Northeastern. Basically, I was pleased with the race. Got pretty tired near the end though. Easy 2M warm-up, cool down with Verbal. Legs sore up through the warmup. Gonna cut back to mid-50s next week, should be primed and ready. Hurdling ability still nil, Coach is surprised I'm running this fast with such horrible form. Just something I gotta work on. | 6 |
| Friday PM: | Basic BU Loop. Went alone since Nolan's 5k was tonight. Quads sore at the start, not encouraging. Somehow, the mileage got higher than I had expected it to. Next week will be forced shorter, mid 50s or so. Strange that I think running 60+M weeks is a taper now, when it was my peak a year ago. | 3 |
| Friday AM: | Its getting warm outside, which is nice. Legs a little tired, but I think they'll be alright. Caught about 6.5 hours, not ideal, but still beneficial. Just gotta take it easy tonight and I'll be ready to rock. | 4 |
| Thursday PM: | Ahhhhh. Easy 3-bomb. BU Bridge Loop, as always. Legs, especially the quads, feeling tired. Gotta take care of myself, get some sleep tonight. Got the seeds today, I'm seventh with most of the guys from Div3s along with some others. Dunham is in at 9:18, he's the guy I'm gonna key off of. Gotta get out well and then just run 74s. Hurdle Drills and 10-12s today. Trail leg still sucks ass. | 3 |
| Thursday AM: | How is it Thursday already? Time flies. Legs a little tired out there, hopefully I'll be able to sleep enough tonight, but no guarantees. | 4 |
| Wednesday PM: | Castle with Nolan. Gorgeous running day. Overcast and cool, but not cold. Legs still there, feeling rested, starting to get my mind around everything I gotta do to run well. Coach said if I can bust out around a 9:17 and ensure a trip to nationals, I'll probably bust a 15 at ECAC the next weekend. But gotta go one week at a time. | 7 |
| Wednesday AM: | Eh. What's there to say? I ran, thats all. | 4 |
| Tuesday PM: | 6x4 62, 3, 3, 2, 3, 2 (window 62-4); 10:00 rest; 6x4 (w/ hurdles) 66 (oops!), 9, 9, 8, 71, 69 (window 69-70). Good workout, I think I ran better this week than last. More focused maybe. The hurdles went alright, still having technique problems. So they were focused more on form than on speed, after the first one. Still got a lot of work to do, especially with flexibility, hopefully this summer will help out. Easy cool down, feeling fresh, excited. | 9 |
| Tuesday AM: | You know those runs where nothing is flowing, you can't find the groove and you feel like you've never run before? That was the first ten mins this morning. Mileage Prediction :: 60M this week. | 4 |
| Monday PM: | Fresh Pond with Nolan. Good run, easy, legs feeling good. One of those runs where you get to talking and don't even notice that you've been running. Those runs rock. Legs kinda tired at the end of hurdle drills though. Gotta stay on top of the work this week. Coach wants me clipping of 74s this weekend (9:15.) I think I'm up for it. | 7 |
| Monday AM: | Pretty much straight forward. Weather's nice, legs surprisingly fresh, given not much sleep last night. | 4 |
| Sunday: | Good Run today. Decided a few mins into that I wanted to go fast today. 61min door to door for Longfellow->Eliot St. Legs got a little tied up near the middle, but I got through it without too much difficulty. Seems like the beautiful weather prompts people to clog up my Esplanade. Sometimes I miss the forty degree, spitting rain weather at nine am, when I got the entire Esplanade to myself. | 9 |

| Week 09 4/28-5/04 |
So this week was pretty good training wise. Hit a good workout on Tuesday, just smoking it. Cut mileage near the end, the legs were fresh going into Div3s. Just didn't get my head in the race early enough, sucks. Academically, this week was kicking my ass, definitely didn't take care of myself the way I would have liked. But that's late-term MIT for ya, just gotta deal. Hopefully I'll get a little more on top of stuff early in the week now. Got two more chances at Nationals, I think I'll be able to give myself a good shot at qualifying. May Miles: 31 | 66 |
| Saturday: | Finished 5th, only went 9:34 though. Got out too conservatively, felt like I was jogging around the track. With 4 or 5 laps left I picked it up, really felt like I was flying around the track, running away from guys. I was closing in on Ferenc (I think it was Ferenc) but ran out of track. More detail in the RACES section. Standard 2M before and 2M after. | 6 |
| Friday PM: | Easy 3-bomb along some highway in Willamstown, MA. Legs feeling good, thinking a lot about the race, feeling confident. Gotta keep myself under control though, don't wanna try to chase down Remsen and Easter and then die the last laps. Gonna be able to take it easy tonight, just sitting around, that'll help. | 3 |
| Friday AM: | Legs aren't feeling as freshed as I would like, but the academic situation precluded that, unfortunately. But still, they feel good enough to keep me confident. | 4 |
| Thursday PM: | BU Bridge Loop. Ahhhhhh. Surprisingly, legs feel good, despite the lack of sleep. Hopefully I'll somehow derive devine inspiration tonight, hammer out all my work before midnight and get 8+ hours tonight. Yah. That'll happen. Currently seeded 5th at Div3s, put that could be 4th if Easter makes the 5k. Regardless, I've got room to move up. | 3 |
| Thursday AM: | Normal. Cold and raining out there. At least the mileage is starting to drop now. Didn't sleep much, hopefully made enough progress to warrant an early bedtime tonight though. | 4 |
| Wednesday PM: | Wow, I am really tired. Ran Fresh Pond, really dragging. It may have been a little self-perpetuating though, Nolan and I started out slow, which lead to feeling tired, which lead to slow running, etc. But regardless, I was dragging today. Legs really dead. Tonight's gonna be long too, so that's no fun. Saw video of me racing at Northeastern, I'm clearing the barrier by about a foot and a half, bringing my trail leg under me, not to the side. Gotta fix that, that'll drop a lot of time. | 7 |
| Wednesday AM: | Legs kinda sore at first, hard to get them rolling. Got into a groove though and had no problems from then on. Gotta try to finish off as much work as possible tonight, it'll be a late one. | 4 |
| Tuesday PM: | 6x4 61, 5, 3, 4, 2, 3 (window 62-4); 10:00 rest; 6x4 62, 3, 4, 3+, 3, 2 (62-4). Good workout. Not as devastating as I had imagined. Running those times is considerably easier without a couple 2:16 halves in the legs. Had hoped to be closer to 62s than I was, but put all but two in the range, and those were the first two. Feeling fresh, excited for the weekend, but still have a lot of work to do this week. Gotta stay on it. April Miles: 332 | 9 |
| Tuesday AM: | Calves kinda ached at the beginning of the run. Got moving pretty well at the end though. I hope I survive the workout this afternoon. | 4 |
| Monday PM: | BC Loop w/o Reservoir. Legs feeling pretty good, run felt easy, not pushing it at all. Did a mile over hurdles afterwards, that was pretty horrible. It took me two laps to get used to hurdling them, next time I'll throw in a few quick hurdle drills next time, loosen up a bit. Coach's orders: Cut 10M off, so this week will be in the 68-70M range. In other news, Easter=9:08 and Remsen=9:11. Me=5th. Div3s should be hot. Need to start prepping for tomorrow's workout. It'll be blazin'. | 9 |
| Monday AM: | Normal run, gotta get used to the 6-7 hrs sleep, got a little spoiled by the 9-10 hrs a few days ago. I think Coach is trying to kill me and Nolan on Tuesday. BIG workout this week. | 4 |
| Sunday: | Shorter run today, waited a long time to get to it. Longfellow->Eliot Street Bridge. Feeling pretty good, moving quick for most of the run. This week could hit me pretty hard though, gotta stay on top of stuff so that I can sleep Thursday night and be ready to rumble at Div3s. I haven't seen coach's plan for the week, I would imagine the mileage will stay high though, 70+. | 9 |

| Week 08 4/21-4/27 |
Good week with pretty high mileage and I got to sleep a lot near the end of it, which is always a plus. The workout went pretty well, hard to get used to running the 4s w/o hurdles in the way, but I definitely prefer them that way. It was kinda hard to find the right pace during the workout, I don't know why. I felt like I was getting a little sick in the middle of the week too, but I got on the Echinacea and OJ and stopped that quick enough. Topped the week off with a meet record and PR, set myself up nicely for next week too. Good Week. April Miles: 297 | 78 |
| Saturday: | Wasn't feeling all that great on the warm-up, but remembered that old cliche about running well when the warm up sucks. Got in a pretty good race, I still have a lot of stuff to work on though. Hurdles are far from perfect, got lazy and stopped accelerating into some of them, basically slacked off in the middle. Cooled down 2M with Roach. Good Day. | 6 |
| Friday PM: | BU->Science Museum Loop. I don't understand why my legs feel so tired. Really, I'm just dragging through this run today. I'll kick the legs up tonight, drink a lot of H2O, hopefully clear any junk out of my legs that may be in them. In other news, I'm feeling pretty confident about this race, but it looks like Wildman's gonna take this one off so he's healthy for Div3s next week. Just gotta be ready to get to the front early and just go. Accelerate into the hurdle and drive the trail leg. And oh yeah, run fast between the barriers. | 6 |
| Friday AM: | You'd think that sleeping 19+ hours over a 34 hour period would leave my legs feeling rested. I don't understand my body. Oh well, as long as they're ready to fly tomorrow. By the way, the mileage forecast I made earlier in the week, I forgot to add in Sat. miles. Looks like I'll be close to 80 now. | 4 |
| Thursday PM: | Fresh Pond Loop. Basically ran alone today. Guys were going shorter, so I took off pretty early. Feeling good, probably due to the sleep. Gonna try that again tonight, having no homework is so awesome, I feel like I don't go to MIT. Its so strange to sit here without a huge academic load weighing me down. It'll be back next week though, so gotta enjoy when I got it. (Side Note: To me enjoying free time equals sleeping. I'm a dork.) Lastly, congrats to Nolan and Carlos, winning prizes from Lufthansa. Sehr gut. | 7 |
| Thursday AM: | Ran after 6.001 live lecture. Feeling fresh, maybe because I slept ten hours last night. I'll probably do that again tonight. Discovered I'm 6 days too old to compete at Junior Nationals, I've qualified for the steeple, but the rule is you can't turn 20 years old in 2002. So close. Looks like I'll just have to hit that 8:44.5 "A" standard now. | 4 |
| Wednesday PM: | 4x8 2:16, 18, 17, 18 (window 2:16); 4x4 62, 2, 4, 3 (62); 4x2 30, 30, 29, 30 (30). The eights were a struggle. Could never get out on a good pace. Really, the middle 400 sucked. Would hit a good first 2, then relax too much, and have to work to get it back. The first two fours were pretty good, but killing me. I got out horribly on #3, never got up with Nolan and it showed in the time. Deuces were, well, deuces. Hit the john right after, cut the warm down to 1M cuz my bowels was in a bad way. But hey, week's over for me. Hello Sleep. | 8 |
| Wednesday AM: | Normal. Weather's getting nice. Big day academically, and a big workout too. | 4 |
| Tuesday PM: | Docks Loop with Nolan, Roach and Liyan. Legs feeling good still, not overly sore, not overly great though. Hurdle drills felt pretty good though, I'm still making a lot of mistakes, which is good and bad. Good cuz it means there's a lot of room to improve, bad cuz it means I'm screwing up a lot. New NE D3 rankings up, I'm in 7th, can easily move to 4th with a good race on Saturday. | 8 |
| Tuesday AM: | Nice Science Museum Loop. Legs feeling better, but no watch on this one. Today will be killer, but then the week is over school-wise. Outlook for week's mileage is good, 74M. | 4 |
| Monday PM: | Harvard Brige->Arsenal Loop. Rainy and cold, not the greatest weather in the world, but it didn't affect the run at all, so I don't mind that much. Obviously, I'd rather run in sunny, warm weather, but as long as the snow stays away, I'm happy. Did a mile over hurdles after the run, that was, well, boring. Really only showed me that I'm not very good at hurdling when my legs are tired. | 11 |
| Monday AM: | Weather got worse. Cold, blustery, but not really noticeable after a short while into the run. Still going slow on these. HR was 47 this morning. | 4 |
| Sunday: | Longfellow->Arsenal. Typical Sunday Loop. Weather's a little bit chillier today, but nice to run in. Legs feeling pretty sweet, nothing achy or sore really. Running a good clip, but not forcing anything today, averaged 6:45s or so. Saw Nolan running across the river, knee high socks, red shirt, typical Nolan chin to chest move, etc. We'll see how this week turns out, it might get tough near the end of the week, might not. Depends on how smart I am. | 12 |

| Week 07 4/14-4/20 |
Just an average week really, good total mileage, especially since I backed off on Sunday by 3-5M. Nothing really stands out about the week, outside of the race. No exceptional workouts. Never hammered a run really hard. Just chilling basically, trying to survive and keep my legs going forward. So far, so good. April Miles: 219 | 75 |
| Saturday: | Husky Invite @ Northeastern. Pretty good run. Legs felt good, dropped more time, still have a lot more. Really, by the end of the race, my legs were stinging during the finish, but afterwards I was good to go again. I really need to try pushing the middle. Anyways, 2M before and 2M after to cap off another week. | 6 |
| Friday PM: | BU->Science Museum Bridge Loop. Man, my legs were tired today. Just dragging through this run. I was falling asleep as I tried to read before practice. Legs pretty tired, pretty tight, so I'll hit 'em up with The Stick tonight. Strides felt good, which is reassuring. Gonna sleep awhile tonight, hopefully that'll give me a boost. | 6 |
| Friday AM: | Haven't been bringing a watch on these recently, so I'm not sure exactly how slow I'm going, but I'm sure it's pretty slow. Legs still kinda heavy, hopefully a good night's sleep tonight will get them primed for tomorrow. | 4 |
| Thursday PM: | Ran BC Loop, didn't go around the Reservoir. Cameo from Ed Keehr. Kinda dragging today, gotta check the HR tomorrow morning. People dropping sick left and right here. Just got the steeple on Saturday, that should be good, let me just hit one with everything I got. More hurdle drills today. Man am I sick of that stuff. Feldman was a no-show today, Nolan started ripping into him. That Nolan, got no heart, cold blooded, heart of stone that guy has. | 8 |
| Thursday AM: | Felt like I was slower than usual. Saw Nolan. Yep. I got nothing. | 4 |
| Wednesday PM: | 2x8 2:17, 15 (window 2:16); 4x4 w/ hurdles 69, 73, 70, 72 (???); 6x2 28, 7, 8, 8, 8, 8 (29). Man, I hate having to run the quarters over hurdles. Really, I was just dogging them. Its horrible, I know, but I can't get rolling on them. The window for the regular quarters was 62. I haven't been able to cut loose and hurt like that cuz of these stupid hurdles. Hurried up the cool down to make it to the 6.001 exam. Rocked that. | 8 |
| Wednesday AM: | Damn is it hot outside. Gotta drink a lot today so that the workout isn't death. Otherwise things are pretty good, back on a "normal" sleep schedule (6-7 hrs). | 4 |
| Tuesday PM: | Ran from home to practice, then Fresh Pond, then home. Still feel really tired, like I'm almost unmotivated to get out and go. Didn't smash it or anything, just running. Been sleeping a lot, relaxing, just basically a lot of reading. Maybe its cuz I've been in the sun too much? Nice weather, clear skies, sunny, warm. Workout should be good tomorrow. 400s @ 62, but coach'll most likely make me hurdle the 4s, so they won't be as bad as they could be. | 9 |
| Tuesday AM: | Normal, as always. Despite sleeping nine hours I'm still a little tired. Saw Josh "Wellesley" Cox on the run. | 4 |
| Monday PM: | Took a nice jog from Hopkinton to Boylston in 2:23:32. Oh wait, that was Feldman. Actually, it was 8x1:30. First 6 were going pretty well, legs a little more tired than I would like, but I was running up with Nolan and ready to make a big move on number 7. But a side cramp took me out, basically ruined the last two intervals. Such a Roach move to pull. I can't remember the last time that happened. It just wouldn't go away. Guess I've been slacking on the situps. Ran to and from home. | 9 |
| Monday AM: | Normal. Weather looks good for the marathon, overcast, feels on the edge of rain, but it might be a little hot. | 4 |
| Sunday: | Longfellow-->Eliot St. Bridge. Man, that double really took it out of me. Physically, I don't feel that exhausted, but out there today, I just couldn't get rolling. It was a nice day to run though, a little hot, I think I got a little dehydrated, but nothing horrible. Boston Marathon + BoSox v. Yanks Series + Nice Weather = Too Many People On Esplanade. Forgot to write it yesterday, but congrats to Yuval Mazor, sub-50. Finally. Good Job Yuval! | 9 |

So yah, this was a great week. I hit 75M even with that ridiculous Friday mileage, and I won a collegiate race. I'm feeling pretty good about the way things are progressing with the steeple. But really, the water barrier is the only one I feel I'm doing well on right now, so I gotta get ready for racing people I can't just run away from between the barriers. The training keeps going well, feeling healthy, hopefully the next few weeks won't be as hellish as this one academically. April Miles: 144 (Gross) (yah, i'm a dork) | 75 |
| Saturday: | Two races today. One really good one, the steeple, and an alright 5k. Descriptions in the RACES section. So yah, lots of warm-up / cool down miles. It was a good day, focus coming around pretty well, especially in the steeple. | 10 |
| Friday PM: | BU Bridge Loop. What a joke. This mileage is so low. I feel like I'm one of those lazy 400m runners, well, really just Yuval. Anyways, my legs felt pretty good during strides, hip still hurts a little from the fall, but really not a problem. The key in the 5 is gonna be to just get out and run behind the leaders, and ignore whatever my legs say, since I know I'm strong enough to run it without dying. Good thing its a long weekend, I anticipate passing out shortly after the 5k. | 3 |
| Friday AM: | No run. Resting up for Saturday, coach's orders. | 0 |
| Thursday PM: | BC Loop w/o Reservoir. Probably should have gone around though, since plans changed for Saturday. I've got the steeple-5k double, so tomorrow is just meet warmup, and mileage will be reduced on Sunday. Run was pretty good today. I think I may have bruised my hip or something like that when I fell on Tuesday, because it has been aching a little bit, but nothing horrible. Got a lot of work, gotta get it done. | 8 |
| Thursday AM: | Ran after 6.001 Lecture. Good idea, cuz it woke me up, and I had been pretty tired. I better sleep a lot this weekend. | 4 |
| Wednesday PM: | 2x8 2:19, 17 (window 2:18); 6x4 over hurdles 67-72 (window ??); 6x2 mainly 29s (31). The 8s I wound up leading most of, and the fours just got long and my legs got tired. I was running 68-9 for most of them though. The deuces, man, those are just coasting. I'd work for part of it, usually the start, then coast down the straight. Coach was saying I'm gonna work with the 400 group now, show Yuval & Co. (well, basically Yuval) how to run fast. (that was a joke, i'm too fast for that group) (that wasn't a joke) (ok, it was a joke.) Too tired to go for a long cool down. I'll get 'em in tomorrow maybe. | 9 |
| Wednesday AM: | Sleeping before 8.02 >> Morning Run. I'll go long after the workout. | 0 |
| ?????? | Mystery Miles. Woke up this morning to upper 60s and knew it was gonna happen. Dropped in a little 3-bomb. Nothing like that to get your spirits back up. | 3 |
| Tuesday PM: | Ran a Science Loop @ 4:30, then went around Fresh Pond with Roach. Pretty good run, just relaxing. Beautiful day, mid-60s, a little breazy, it sprinkled a bit on the run. Didn't really feel like killing it today, so I just logged the miles. Hurdle drills, too. I feel more confident now, but acknowledge I have a lot of work to do. Tripped over a hurdle, too. "You bounce pretty high off this track" -Coach Taylor. No problem though, got up and started over. | 14 |
| Tuesday AM: | Up too late with too much shit on my mind. I'll make it up today. | 0 |
| Monday PM: | 8x1:30 along the Esplanade. Eliot Street loop, then an Infinite to bump up the mileage. The start was kinda questionable, not really announced, guys just kind of took off, and I was in the back, so I just though "Who needs this shit? I'm taking it balls to the wall the whole workout now." Every interval I kinda exploded and ran away from guys. By the fourth or fifth the lactic acid was hitting me near the end of the interval, and the last two I felt myself locking up a lot for the last 30 secs or so, but I got through it. Looks like Wednesday will be a speed workout, tentatively no hurdles. | 8 |
| Monday AM: | Typical. Thought I saw Nolan running at me, but it was just a woman in a red hat. Wait. Was that Nolan? Into week #2 back at MIT. | 4 |
| Sunday: | Longfellow-->Arsenal. Lost an hour of my day today, screw you farmers. Ran from 6 til 7:30 tonight, mainly with the sun still in the sky, thank you farmers. Daylight Savings Time, what a love/hate relationship. Regardless, put in a good run today. Averaged 6:30s the whole way. Got moving near the end, things still feel good, still excited about the steeple. Yah, good day. | 12 |

A good, solid week of mileage, with a pretty good workout. Think I may have discovered my new race. Kinda came on strong at the end. Really, I haven't felt too much of an effect on my legs from the mileage. The extra after the race got kinda long and tiring, but outside of that, the legs have felt really fresh during the runs, but I have been kinda dragging after practices, but I did have a hellishly hard academic week, with not much sleep. But look at the mileage, if I bump up Sundays to 15M like they should be, and plan ahead so I can sleep AND do a Friday AM run, I'm at 88M this week. Things are looking good. April Miles: 69 | 81 |
| Saturday: | Engineer's Cup Steeplechase. Pretty good race. The beginning was all about getting over the barriers, and not falling into the water jump (happened once). Once I remembered to start running fast between the barriers, I started catching guys. Really, the race was pretty easy, could have run a lot faster. This is kinda cool. Extend (5M) cool down. Good week. | 9 |
| Friday PM: | BU-->Science Museum Bridge Loop. Ran most of the way with Roach. Like 10 prefrosh ran today, so they took off and dropped me. Running pretty easy today, resting up for the steeple tomorrow. In a really good mood too, so that was fun. Gotta get mentally ready for tomorrow, without developing any prejudices. Really, I'm not THAT opposed to racing the steeple, but its easier to make jokes when I act like I hate the steeple. Thats right. I know you're reading this Yuval and Nolan. | 6 |
| Friday AM: | No Run. At this point, sleep is more important than miles. | 0 |
| Thursday PM: | Docks. Running at a fair clip. Most of the way with Nolan, we were both in good moods, so the run was pretty good. Prefrosh was there, but he understandedably wanted to take off. Hurdles drills went well today, 10-12s for the first time. Those were pretty good too. I'm one of four entrants in the steeple this weekend, so it starts on Saturday. Check out the mileage, damn, this week is gonna be huge. SWEET. | 8 |
| Thursday AM: | Nice run, weather's a little cool, but the sky's clear. Was a little tired, but its amazing how well 4M will wake you up. | 4 |
| Wednesday: | Missed the AM run because of sleep, so I did a Science Museum loop before practice. Ran BC around Reservoir. After the loop around the Reservoir CBW and myself took off, just hammering. The whole run was pretty quick, but we were flying. It was drizzling out, the kind of weather you love to run fast in. I really haven't just smashed a run like that in a while. It felt really good. | 13 |
| Tuesday PM: | 2x12 3:35, 36 (window 3:36); 3x8 2:19, 19, 15 (2:20); 4x4 (w/ hurdles) 71, 3, 2, 2 (72). Legs took a little while to liven up, they were absolutely dead for the 12s, I was just following Nolan. Busted out a good last 8, then ran over hurdles. Still slowing up as I approach them. Cool down BU Bridge --> Longfellow. | 12 |
| Tuesday AM: | Easy run this morning. Even though I was dragging when I got out of bed the legs felt fine. Gotta rock this workout today. | 4 |
| Monday PM: | Ran Castle with Roach and then a warm up loop to add a few miles on. Running really slow, I'd guess between 7:15s and 7:30s. This was my first day back at school, so that was draining. I'm kinda rundown mentally right now, which isn't so cool. Just gotta keep plugging. | 9 |
| Monday AM: | Easy morning run with Verbal. Nice weather still, a little wet, but good for running. Legs feel good, loose. | 4 |
| Sunday: | Longfellow-->Arsenal. Running pretty slow, averaged approx 7:15s or so. Didn't really feel like I was running that slow, must be a function of the long day of travelling without much sleep. Things were kind of hectic today, but they worked out. Back in Boston, nice weather. Lots of work but I gotta sleep too. It'll work itself out. March Miles: 289 | 12 |

| Week 04 3/24-3/30 |
A pretty good week of training. The mileage fell a little short of where I had wanted it to be, but thats because I skipped out on some extra runs that I probably should have run. The legs were dead for the race, but shouldn't have slowed me down so much. All in all a good, relaxing experience, training out in Palo Alto. March Miles: 277 | 76 |
| Saturday: | Ran around the Big Dish with Nolan, then down to the Alpine Road Bike Trail from Tuesday, then another lap of the Campus Drive Loop. Watched some races, elite 1500 etc., then added on another mile back to the hotel. Legs feeling alright, running slow, just recovering from the race and the week. | 12 |
| Friday: | Poorly raced 5k with an extended cool down to add miles. Legs were very dead today, but I should've raced faster. Need to work on my racing a lot. Hopefully a lot of sleep tonight will help the legs out, then put in some more miles on Saturday. | 12 |
| Thursday: | Nothing like a meet warmup day to kill the mileage for the week. Short run today, but pretty good because I could feel it loosening up the legs. Racing at noon tomorrow. Strange, it doesn't feel like I have to race tomorrow. Hmmm, should I be worried? I'm not. Just gonna go race. Hoping to have a shot to win. (the heat, not the event.) | 3 |
| Wednesday: | 2x1200 3:35, 36 (window 3:36); 3x800 2:21, 19, 21 (2:20); 4x400 66, 5, 3, 7 (66). Got a little fast on #3 of the quarters. Legs very dead right now, but I was able to hit the windows fairly well. Hopefully a day of lying around will help the legs. Don't think a PM run is gonna happen, but we'll see. | 9 |
| Tuesday PM: | Easy run down El Camino with Nolan, Verbal and CBW. Just adding mileage and stretching out the legs. Feeling good still, this week is at high mileage already. Almost expecting the bottom to drop out. So although Coach meant to scratch me out of the steeple, he really scratched me out of the 5k, and my seed of No Time didn't make the cut for the steeple. So I'm gonna race as CBW in the 5k, he's the last seed, and he's only gonna run the steeple. It'll work out. | 4 |
| Tuesday AM: | Ran mainly along a path which ran alongside a fairly rural road. Nice weather, sunshine mid-60s maybe. Legs kinda sore, but nothing I can't work through. Getting a lot of good work in right now. Relaxing in the off hours. Excited about the training. Did a LOT of hurdle work, I guess maybe its coming together. I'm getting more confident approaching the hurdles at least. Track work tomorrow. | 10 |
| Monday PM: | Easy 4M down University Ave through Palo Alto. Simple out and back, relaxed, nothing major happening. Resting a lot, thats good. | 4 |
| Monday AM: | Fartlek around the Stanford Campus. 8x1:30. Legs a little tired, hard to push near the end. On the whole a good workout though. Coach scratched me out of the steeple this weekend, so only race is the 5k on Friday night. Haven't thought much about that yet. Gonna get out for another run later today. | 8 |
| Sunday: | First run in Palo Alto. Ran from hotel through Stanford campus and up around radio telescopes. Did two loops around a hilly, paved path. Pretty good running. Aside from the pavement and technology, I felt like I could have been in Kenya. Then around through Stanford a little more and mop up miles near hotel. Its good to run in warm weather again. | 14 |

| Week 03 3/17 - 3/23 |
Good week, good week. A little bit longer on the Sundays and Saturdays, maybe a few more AM runs, and the mileage is 80+. Thats quality right there. Near the end of the week legs got kinda tired, run down. Jumped over hurdles for the first time, that was UGLY. Ah well, it'll work itself out. Next week will be HIGH mileage in California, lots of rest, and good competition at Stanford. March Miles: 201 | 75 |
| Saturday: | Longfellow-->Elliot St. Bridge plus a little more to top off the mileage. Legs pretty tired at the start again, worked through it though. Go tmoving pretty well by the end. Strange, in one week, I'll be done with the Stanford Invitational. Outdoor season is here, I guess. | 10 |
| Friday: | Ran Jamaica Pond. Running SLOW with Nolan, just straggling and moaning. Legs beat, really tired. Hips hurt, probably from hurdling yesterday. mileage is getting high too. A good run tomorrow will put me 75+, right where I wanted to be for spring trip to CA. Checked the seeds for Stanford, wow, I'm seeded WAY back in the 5k, and dead last in the steeple. | 8 |
| Thursday PM: | Same track workout as last week. 2x16 4:48, 52 (window 4:52), 3x8 2:20, 18, 17 (2:22), 4x4 over hurdles. The jumping over the hurdles kinda killed the workout for me. My focus really sucked on the first miles, but came around on the eights, but then the hurdles were all over the track and I was jumping about 8 feet to clear them, yah, not too fun. Good mileage day, if nothing else. | 11 |
| Thursday AM: | Its been a few weeks since I've done one of those. Nice Science Museum Loop, as always. Beautiful day outside. Gotta rock the workout today. | 4 |
| Wednesday: | Ran home to pick up hat and gloves since it was SNOWING outside. Why did I come to a town where it snows in mid-Marc Regardless, got in 10 good miles with Nolan around the pond at Fresh Pond. Trudging through snow, sleet and rain so feet and shoes were completely soaked half way into it. | 12 |
| Tuesday: | Ran from PKT to MIT after Kathryn's flight took off, then ran BC Loop around Reservoir with the guys, caught them just as they left. Banged my knee last night, but no problems, can't even feel it when I run. Legs felt good today, after the Reservoir CBW and myself took off. All around good run. | 11 |
| Monday: | Ran a 3x5:00 Tempo run. Snowing outside so that kinda slowed things down a little. Nolan slippped under the BU Bridge, one of us had to fall there, it was inevitable. Anyways, I'd get to the front at each interval and respond to anybody who came up next to me. About halfway in to the interval I'd try and push away from guys. Solid workout, but nothing that's trashing the legs. | 7 |
| Sunday: | Longfellow --> Arsenal Loop. About forty minutes in my legs kinda started to tie up, but I got through the run alright. 77 mins round trip, 74 along the river. Good start to this week, want to bump mileage up about 5-7M | 12 |

| Week 02 3/10 - 3/16 |
This week was pretty good, but still tough. Not nearly as much sleep as I would have liked, but I ran a good workout and still got 68 miles on singles, so that's respectable. The last time I ran that much on singles was awhile ago, and the last time I was at that kind of mileage was mid-February. March Miles: 126 | 68 |
| Saturday: | Standard Longfellow-->Eliot Street Bridge Saturday Nine Mile Loop. About half way through I got REALLY tired, my whole body. Still haven't gotten caught up on the sleep, but it'll come. | 9 |
| Friday: | Ran to MIT from PKT then ran Ocean. Whole body tired, really achy. Had to stop at a BK to drop some weight halfway into it. Overall, just fatigued from a long week. Gonna try to regroup over the weekend, try not to work myself into a hole again at the end of next week. | 9 |
| Thursday: | 2x16 4:54, 55 (window 4:55), 3x8 2:24, 23, 21 (2:24), 4x4 66, 7, 5, 5 (69). I was rocking on this workout. Got out a little slow on the second mile though, but managed to get it back in the window. By the end, I was just rolling, not even getting that tired. I expected to be wasted after the workout, but I'm feeling really good. Fake Fresh Pond cool down. | 13 |
| Wednesday: | Ran Fresh Pond around the Pond. My legs were feeling sore the whole time but I felt like I could have broken away but decided to play it cool and wait for the workout tomorrow. My lifestyle this week has not been conducive to good running or fresh legs. Too much work, not enough sleep. Its alright, it'll come around. | 10 |
| Tuesday: | Ran BC with Nolan today. My first run with him post-Nationals. I think he'll be alright, but he's down now. Legs tired, hardly any sleep last night because of a paper I had to write. This week'll be long, I know that and am ready for it. Maybe I should start thinking about Thursday's workout? Nah. It'll take care of itself. | 8 |
| Monday: | 3x5:00 tempo run. Legs really heavy, not feeling so good. Ran away from guys on the intervals, but didn't feel like I was flying or anything. Harvard->Eliot Street Bridge. Workout 1 of 2 for this week. Nolan's back, but he's got mileage this week, so next week we'll start lighting it up. I'm swamped with work, not gonna be sleeping much right now. It'll get out of the way soon. | 7 |
| Sunday: | Ran Longfellow->Arsenal Loop. 79 mins total, surprising how good I felt. I expected to feel really crappy from a lack of sleep over the past few nights. This week is probably gonna be pretty tough, so I need to stay focused and get work done and sleep. | 12 |

| Week 01 3/03 - 3/09 |
Good first week back, in my opinion. Smashed the workout on Tuesday, that was good especially since I had expected to just be doing distance for awhile. But coach seems pretty set on my running the steeple, I don't know about that. Apparently I'm supposed to qualify for outdoor nats. Well, just gotta take them as they come and go into races devoid of expectations and prejudice. March Miles: 58 | 58 |
| Saturday: | Docks Loop starting from PKT. My legs are trashed, too much dancing last night I guess. A little way in I just wanted to stop my legs were aching. Had planned on going 11 by adding on a Harvard->BU bridge loop, but its only week one, I've got a little leeway right now. Rest up for a long run tomorrow (13M?). | 8 |
| Friday: | Castle to Bunker Hill Monument. Good run, kept trying to pull away, then having to wait up for directions and stop lights, whatever. Ran away at the end. Feeling good, feeling fast. A little Ultimate afterwards. Gotta keep this excitement all the way through, we'll see. This weekend is key for homework. | 7 |
| Thursday: | BC today. Running with Albert, Liyan and Fonder. Fonder ran in the AM with CBW and lasted the whole run in the PM. Damn, is he turning a corner? Hopefully. Anyways, legs kinda sore, not heavy though. Kept up a good pace all the way, didn't ever plan on / want to break away today. Playing it cool tomorrow, step up mileage some over weekend, toss in a few AM runs next week to bump miles up to near 70. Hurdle drills today, things are going quite slow in that area. | 8 |
| Wednesday: | Ran Docks today. Took off a little when we hit the Docks proper, the guys (CBW, Carlos and Albert) got close near downtown, but decided to back off then, so I ran home alone. Quads pretty sore today, that workout was rocking yesterday, but left me kinda wasted last night, even with a nap. Oh well. Nolan and Feldman are at Nats right now, I kinda wish I was in OH right now too. Next time. | 8 |
| Tuesday: | 1x1600 4:52 (window 4:50); 2X1200 3:38, 3:37 (3:36); 3x8 2:23, 2:25, 2:22 (2:22); 4x4 70, 68, 68?, 65 (69). A good strength workout. Looking back, I probably could have run a little faster on the whole, that's not to take away from the workout. I'm wasted right now. Ran the workout from the front the whole time, basically alone. Got a little wild on the fours. Workout was indoors, instead of out, because of logistics. Very good day. | 10 |
| Monday: | Ran Jamaica Pond with Albert, CBW, Carlos and Roach. Haven't run with Carlos in a while, that was fun. When we hit the pond I picked it up a little bit, pulled away from them for the rest of the run. Feeling good, really not pushing or anything. Looks like I'll probably be running these intervals by myself, so we'll see how that goes. Should have run faster indoors. Then I wouldn't have to be doing steeple drills, which I started today. Man am I bad at that. | 8 |
| Sunday: | Ran Longfellow-->Eliot Street Bridge. Feeling great, beautiful early spring day, I was sweating a lot by the end. Starting out it was kinda hard to find my rhythm, it felt like I was leaping with every stride, not a contained stride that I'm used to. By the end though, I was back to normal. Averaging sub 6:30s, so thats good. Coach's gonna hit us with a workout on Tues, but Nolan and Feldman are still doing indoor workouts, so I'll probably have to go it alone. We'll see. Great to be back running. | 9 |
