| Friday PM: |
ECAC 5000m at Bowdoin College in 15:04. Pretty disappointing race. Drove up with Coach and had a few hours to sit around. Wasn't much to watch so I just sat down and tried to focus on the race. Had been falling asleep on the drive up, surprised that I was so tired. Did the typical Bowdoin warmup, it had started raining outside but managed to largely stay dry. Was feeling pretty quick on the strides and was ready to roll when we hit the line. Got into the lead because I was on the inside. Came through in 35-high with Jeff Beck on my shoulder. Continued to run around the correct pace but wasn't able to keep it even. Would run 34-high and then drop down to a 36. Eventually Turner made a move and Anderson went with him and I couldn't hold on. Feeling pretty spent with a mile to go, third hard 5k in 3 weeks started to get to me. Cooled down a mile and lamented another crappy end to another indoor season. Coach wants me to try to change my footfall to help me stay on my toes, I'm running too much on my heels and it's killing my momentum apparently. |

| Friday AM: |
Orange Line. Got out the door a little after 9:30, a full 11 hours before my race. Felt like this was necessary to keep the legs from getting flat during the day. Feeling really good, fatigue caught up a little bit, but ended with a nice pickup down the Mall. My legs are there, the fitness is there, time to put it together. Checked the entries last night, it'll be me, Turner, Beck and Ferenc tonight. |

| Thursday: |
Grass Loop Thousands. Skipped the AM run so I could sleep in, up late writing a paper. Decent run today, just getting the mileage in on a soft surface. Had a good reccommendation from Yuval for a new loop, but I forgot it and didn't want to get lost trying to improvise. Legs looser than yesterday, but there's a lingering fatigue underneath the surface. Got some good strides in and stretched out for awhile. It's all or nothing tomorrow. |
4 |
| Wednesday PM: |
Harvard Square Loop. Feeling pretty decent today, legs pretty tired/sore from both yesterday and from waking up early today. Took a nap around noon by accident, fell asleep reading. Legs loosened up during strides though, so that was encouraging. Hopefully this'll be timed just right and I'll start an upswing on Friday. Got into the cold whirlpool afterwards, first time in awhile, that felt pretty good. |

| Wednesday AM: |
Grass Loops. Had a meeting with some of the athletic department at 7AM this morning, so I laced them up for some Grass Loops at 9AM before walking back home. Feeling good, still trying to relax and get myself in the right mindset for one last attempt this weekend. It's coming up a lot quicker than I realize. |

| Tuesday: |
4x400 64, , , 64 (window 63-4); 4x300 46, , , 46 (46-7); 4x200 30, 30, 30, 30 (30-31). Had 100m between all intervals and 400m between sets. Feeling pretty good around the track today, nothing was forced. The 400s got my legs pretty tired, but I was loosened up again at the start of the threes. Those and the deuces didn't really take that much out of my legs, felt relaxed and almost like I was jogging around the track. Trying to stay alert, imaging being ready to move at any time, trying to put myself into the situation I'll be in this weekend. Wanted an AM run this morning to loosen up, but slept in too late. |
8 |
| Monday: |
Fresh Pond around the Pond. Didn't feel like doing a morning run today, so I just skipped it. Feeling good the whole way today, not entirely loose and easy but didn't force the pace, just let the legs do what they felt like doing. Again, tried to stay up and ready to move, which is what Coach has been telling me to work on. Hopefully it's just a matter of becoming comfortable with the distance. Coach's appeal to the NCAA got denied, so I can't qualify on Sunday. Looking at last year's results from ECACs was encouraging, hopefully Styczynski from Ithaca (14:51.84), and Beck and Turner from SUNY Geneseo (14:44.21 and 14:40.48 resp.) show up so I'm not stuck out there all alone. One workout tomorrow to put a little more pop in the legs and then nothing but rest and relaxation until Friday. |

| Sunday: |
Reservoir, from home. Another nice, springlike day in New England. Headed down Commonwealth to the Reservoir and back home down Beacon along the Marathon Route. Plan is to cut down to just 60M this week and next, all the work's been done and all that matters is staying sharp. Word from Coach is that the 5k at IC4A is on Sunday, but deadline to qualify is on Saturday. Now I have to decide between riding my 14:39 or trying again at ECACs on Friday at Bowdoin. Don't really want to try by myself on a flat track, or travel up to Bowdoin, but sitting at 15th it doesn't look like I have that many options. Lots to think about, trying to stay positive and come up with a way to stay loose and aggressive over the last mile of a 5k. I've been tying up way too much, I think it's more of a mental problem than a lack of fitness. February Miles : 309 |

| Saturday: |
Fresh Pond from home, then over to BU to catch Day II of All New Englands. Left about 11:15, another nice day outside, running in just shorts and a TShirt. Legs feeling alright, still a bit sore from yesterday but nothing serious. Keep sliding down the list, looks like I'm going to be 15th at the very least. Coach presented the option of running IC4As, another chance to drop a fast time on BU's nice track. Don't know what the plan is yet. |
11 |
| Friday PM: |
5000m at NEIAAA at BU in 14:39.81. Got picked up half an hour late at 4PM, got to the track about 4:10, an hour before my race. Warmed up down to the BU Bridge, tried to get focused and stay relaxed, it was hard because I hadn't had time to get adjusted to being at the meet, since I warmed up essentially as soon as I got there. I was stretching out when Verbal jogged by, cooling down from his 800m, when I noticed he was wearing a number and I didn't have one. He went up into the stands and got mine while I finished stretching out. Didn't get to run too many strides, but was feeling good on the line. Went out relaxed at the gun, was in last place after 200m but came through in 35, right where I wanted to be. We were pretty grouped up until Coval from BU got into the lead, but even then it was a tight pack and I kept cutting my stride as guys in front of me moved around and cut me off. Wound up in lane 2 a bit, feeling a bit uncomfortable through the mile. Things eventually calmed down and we kept rolling through 35s so I was getting excited. With a mile to go I knew I needed to move, but couldn't get my legs going. Holtshulte had snuck in front of me, I tried to hang onto him but had to fight my way around Agnew of Bentley and Fraioli of Stonehill, which took a lot out of me. Brigham came up on me and passed me with 600m to go, I couldn't shift gears to save my life. Thought I had blown the race until I came around the last curve and saw the clock at 14:32, then I tried to drive through the finish line. Pretty content with the time, hopefully I'll sneak into Nationals with it, would have liked to been able to respond to the race more than I did. Rode back to MIT and cooled down with some Grass Loops. |
8 |
| Friday AM: |
Orange Line. Slept about 7 hours last night, woke up feeling good. Watched an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm then took off for a shakeout. Legs feeling amazing the first 10 minutes of the run. Degraded a little bit, lost a bit of the groove, but I'm confident it will come back this afternoon. It's all or nothing today. |
3 |
| Thursday: |
Harvard Loop. Up late working so I slept through the AM run this morning. Feeling pretty good in the PM, not quite as locked in as yesterday, but the strides felt fast and loose, so I'm encouraged. Strange racing on a Friday, can't get a feel for the week, but at least the race is at 5, that's when I'm accustomed to running anyways. |
4 |
| Wednesday PM: |
Grass Loops with Brewer. Started out pretty quick, just running the 1000m loop around the practice field, skipped the turf because lacrosse was out there. After about 4 circuits we both decided to back off a bit, slowed from 6:00 down to 6:20s approximately. Just out there on soft surfaces talking about stuff, good run. Felt really loose today, everything in place, which is encouraging. Hopefully the workout yesterday kickstarted things. |
6 |
| Wednesday AM: |
Orange Line. Slept about 8 hours, HR at 44BPM. Legs stiff at the start but loosened up nicely near the end. Feeling a lot more comfortable than I have of late. |
3 |
| Tuesday PM: |
6x400 61, 3, 5, 4, 5, 4 (window 63-65); 6x200 29, 30, 29, 30, 30, 30 (30-31). 100m between intervals and 400m between sets. Met Coach at BU for this one, to get used to running on the track and to make it a little easier on my legs. I love that track, so I wasn't complaining. Jogged a 3M warmup over there before getting rolling. Not sure how it would go, since the legs have been feeling a bit off and I haven't slept just 6 hours in quite some time. Originally the window was 62s, but that was a typo, as I found out after running 30-31 on the first quarter. Coach wanted them in 63-64 but I couldn't find my rhythm and bounced around a bit. Part of it may have been the track, I wasn't accustomed to running there and I felt a bit out of place, didn't feel at home like I do back at Shobrys. Got out in 31-33 and not be able to feel the pace for the next lap. Felt like the last quarter was about a 66, but clearly, I had no idea what was going on. Deuces went much better, just letting myself get thrown around the track, damn that bank is helpful. With 100m rest they didn't take any toll on me, each one was almost like starting fresh. Cooled down back to MIT and tacked on a Grass Loop to get some cushioning. Overdue for some new shoes, might be part of the knee problem, considering running all of tomorrow's PM mileage on the fields. |
8 |
| Tuesday AM: |
Orange Line. Only slept 6 hours last night, definitely didn't feel like running this morning, but of all mornings this week I needed to loosen up, so I got out the door. Always afraid I'm going to get pain in my knee, but it hasn't come yet. HR at 44BPM last night. |
3 |
| Monday PM: |
Docks. Weather's getting nicer, haven't needed a hat recently. Legs still a bit awkward, if that makes any sense at all. Something feels amiss, not sure what it is exactly. Starting to loosen up it feels though. Knee has been giving me some problems, not pain but just a tightness that makes me aware of it, and slightly paranoid. The right quad has been feeling odd too, but couldn't feel it during strides. |
8 |
| Monday AM: |
Orange Line. Not very motivated to get out the door this morning, but convinced myself it was necessary and laced 'em up. Legs still a bit sore/tired, wasn't feeling to smooth out there. |
3 |
| Sunday: |
Same route as last week. Out the door around 1PM though, so I actually got to run in some daylight. The blister doesn't hurt anymore, so that was good. Didn't cool down very effectively yesterday, the first half of the run the legs were pretty fatigued, just pushing a bunch of lactic acid out of them, or so it felt. Made the turn in 39 minutes, picked it up decently on the way home, without feeling it, guess I just got the legs sufficiently loose. Came home in 36:30. The only goal is to run fast on Friday at BU, hopefully go Auto, at least break 14:40. |

| Saturday: |
5k in 14:51 for 4th place. Pretty disappointing race. Got in the lead with 6 laps to go and couldn't break away, got passed back with 1000m to go and held on until they started kicking. Nipped at the line by Mike Page from Amherst. Should have waited another lap or two to go, but should have gone with more confidence when I got the lead anyways. Pretty disappointed with the way it turned out. Cooled down 2M around a turf field behind the fieldhouse, with a nice big blister on my foot. Rode back to MIT and didn't have the desire to lace them up and get the mileage up. |
7 |
| Friday PM: |
Squeezed in 20 minutes during a break in the pent after getting to Bowdoin, added on a few more minutes around the track after the pent ended. Strides felt better, legs feeling loose. |
4 |
| Friday AM: |
Orange Line. Trying to loosen up before the bus ride up to Maine. Running through the race in my head, feeling confident. HR at 43BPM. |
3 |
| Thursday PM: |
Fresh Pond plus a Grass Loop. Feeling decent today, added on to bump up the mileage a bit. Legs not feeling quite as fresh as I'd like, strides are a bit forced. Lifted afterwards. |
8 |
| Thursday AM: |
Orange Line. Out the door a little after 8AM this morning. Slept 7+ hours, HR at 41BPM. Today's my only day with a lot of class, so I had to rush to get to campus on time. Legs a little more tired than I would like them to be, never got really loosened up, everything felt a tad forced. Hopefully I'll have time for the cold whirlpool tonight. |
3 |
| Wednesday PM: |
Docks. Ran down to the Aquarium with Brewer before he turned off. Feeling pretty good today, legs loose and pretty fresh. Talking the whole time with John, moving at a decent clip too, the time passed by pretty quickly. Held the pace constant the rest of the way, moving well but not hammering. Got back to the track for strides, didn't feel as quick as I would have liked, but the speed will be there, I'm sure. Watched the 800m time trial then headed down to the trainers for a bit before heading home. After two days of taste tests, I've determined that the Multi-Grain Crunch variety of Snicker's new Marathon energy bar is fairly decent, while their Chewy Chocolate Peanut is terrible. |
8 |
| Wednesday AM: |
Orange Line. Slept nearly 8 hours, HR was at 44BPM last night. Still feeling tired when I wake up. Legs not too bad this morning, doesn't feel like the workout decimated me that much. Pretty relaxed last night, not wiped out like most post-workout nights. |
3 |
| Tuesday PM: |
8x400 67, 4, 5, 4, 4, 5, 4, 4 (window 64-66); 8x200 29 for all of them. Had 100m rest between 4s and 2s and 400m between sets. Feeling pretty good today, a little tired and sore on the BU Loop warm up, but got flowing well during strides and the legs felt loose. A little too relaxed on the inital 400, went 34-33. After that I hit 31-33 for the first quarter and focused on staying relaxed and smooth through the second half. Coach said I was running a lot better, not making so much noise when my feet hit. The deuces went fine, enough rest so that I never got into debt at all, felt fresh at the start of each one. Would have been a bit more difficult with the standard 50m rest. All in all a good workout, feel like I've got good strength and speed and cutting the mileage is making the legs feel fresh. Went another BU Loop for the cooldown. |
9 |
| Tuesday AM: |
Orange Line. Slept 8 solid hours, HR at 41BPM. Still, legs are more tired than I'd like them to be. Need to get some fruits and vegetables, maybe even kick the legs up a bit tonight. Trying to decide on what event for this weekend. |
3 |
| Monday PM: |
Castle/Bunker Hill. Feeling decent today, running relaxed and not pushing the pace too much though. Legs weren't as fresh as I would have liked them to be, need to take care of them this week. Probably just from Saturday's fast race and not much of a good run yesterday. Came back across the bridge following the Freedom Trail, skirted the North End and went into Gov't Center, onto Beacon Street and back to Mass Ave. Probably a bit over 8M, but not quite 9. Best guess is I was hitting 6:30s or so. I'm the only distance guy left, so I've got a pretty flexible schedule. |
8 |
| Monday AM: |
Orange Line. Couldn't sleep too late this morning for some reason. No school because of President's Day but I was unable to sleep in. Felt pretty tight/sore for the first few minutes, eventually loosened up and started feeling good though. |
3 |
| Sunday: |
Beacon to the Reservoir, Comm Ave to Centre Street and back. Same route as last weekend. Can't say my diet was the greatest today, and I paid for it as my stomach was exploding over the middle 4M. Sopped at a gas station in Cleveland Circle and that helped me feel much better. Running just a shade under 6:30 per mile, decent pace but I hoped to be faster. Legs felt good, a little fatigued but nothing serious. Worst part was my stomach, really held me back. Oh well. Not that important to be hammering runs anymore. Plan is 70-75M this week again. |

| Saturday PM: |
3000m at FasTrack Invite at BU in 8:30.85. Spent a few hours at the CoEd Invite, then Nolan and I drove over to BU, watched Verbal, Jesse Collins and Blau run, and Uzoma and Khan throw, along with the fast heats of the 3k and the 5k. Then just about everybody left and I had another 2-3 hours before my race. Laid down for awhile, started to focus then went out for a 2M warmup down Comm Ave. Mistimed the warmup slightly and didn't get in too many strides, but felt good coming off the line. Moved up behind Dieckfoss at the mile mark, should have gone past and really pushed at 2k, but I just sat. Wound up racing Vinnie Zarillo of NYU over the last 100m, he barely edged me but it didn't upset me too much because of the 10s PR. Wish I could just hop on the train every weekend and get pulled to fast times. Cooled down 3M with Nolan, just like old times. |
7 |
| Saturday AM: |
Orange Line. Woke up for a quick shakeout since I'm not racing until 7PM tonight. Feeling alright, trying to stay relaxed and run through the game plan in my head. |
3 |
| Friday PM: |
Fake Fresh. Wound up running alone for the majority of it. Fidkowski and Robbie turned off for a BU Loop and Driver and Diger went Harvard Loop. Feeling pretty good today, not too tired, sat around most of the day. Realized that I hadn't been focused on the race tomorrow that much, started putting myself through it mentally over the last mile or two. May have sped up a little unintentionally. Just hoping that I can hit good splits through the first 2k with some help, and be in good position from there. The season's starting to wind down and it's time to do something. |
5 |
| Friday AM: |
Orange Line. HR at 43BPM last night, a bit tired this morning but the legs felt pretty good on the run. Weather is starting to pick up a bit, sunny and warmer outside which puts me in a better mood. Really looking forward to the long weekend where I can get plenty of sleep. |
3 |
| Thursday PM: |
Docks. Ran early todday, took off with Carlos who turned around by the Fleet Center. Kept it cool the whole way again, feel like resting up, unwilling to really hammer this late in the week. Held about 6:20-6:30 for the run, legs feeling ok. |
8 |
| Thursday AM: |
Orange Line. Dead tired when I woke up this morning. HR was at 45BPM and I didn't feel like getting up out of bed. Legs pretty heavy the whole run, took a considerable effort to get the miles in this morning. |
3 |
| Wednesday PM: |
BC Reservoir. Skipped the Summit Ave. add-on, started out a bit slow but picked it up as the run wore on. Khatch started with me but dropped off as his foot started to hurt him. Not much going on, legs feeling pretty good. Hard to get a handle on how quick I was running, felt comfortable the whole time. Still a bit icy around the Reservoir, picked it up slightly on the way home but kept it easy and under control. |

| Tuesday PM: |
2x800 2:14, 15 (window 2:13-15); 6x400 64, 4, 5, 5, 5, 4 (window 64-66); 6x200 29, 29, 30, 30, 30, 30 (window 30-31). Took 200m between 8s, 100m between 4s, 50m between deuces and 400m between sets. BU Loop warm up and cooldown. |
9 |
| Tuesday AM: |
Orange Line. Felt a little tightness in my knee, scared me for a few minutes but it disapated by the end of the run. |
3 |
| Monday: |
Fresh Pond, around the Pond. Skipped the AM run today, combined it all into the PM. Feeling pretty decent today, hitting a solid pace from the start. Stopped at the Sunoco en route. Nice and warm out today, almost like it's spring. Legs feeling pretty good, running effortlessly and hit 60 minutes for the loop. |
10 |
| Sunday: |
Followed the Marathon route to Centre Street in Newton, the 20M mark. Feeling pretty lousy today, upset stomach and just tired. Running slow, 41 minutes out, 41 minutes back. Stopped at the Holiday Inn on the way back to alleviate my stomach pain, felt a little better after that. Cutting back to 75M this week, starting to taper and hopefully run fast. |

| Saturday: |
5k at Greater Boston Champs at Harvard. Out in 66, 2:16, 4:37. Felt good the first mile, first quarter a bit too quick but was right where I wanted to be through the mile. Started slipping to 72s through approx. 2500m, then the bottom fell out. Hit 2M in 9:37, started running 78s and feeling sorry for myself. Not what I was expecting from today. Rode the bus back to MIT then cooled down to the Science Museum and back through Beacon Hill area. |
9 |
| Friday PM: |
Fake Fresh. Snow turned to rain in the middle of the day and left puddles everywhere. Gave up on trying to stay dry early and just slogged through the run. Not running very quick, stretched out back on the track, but skipped strides because my legs felt cold and tight. |
5 |
| Friday AM: |
Orange Line. Snow's been falling all morning. Packed well though, so I wasn't slipping around at all. Legs felt loose enough. |
3 |
| Thursday PM: |
Ocean. For some reason I thought this was an 8M run, definitely a 9M route though. I'll have to adjust the mileage from Week 8. Trying to just chill on the run today, kept it under control and let Driver get ahead by a little bit, last thing I wanted was to get racing and blow my legs. Feeling a little sore and tight still, but I think with a good night of sleep I should be fine. Didn't feel too quick on strides, will have to focus on those tomorrow. Not much of any note occured, three days into the term, just putting miles in today. |
9 |
| Thursday AM: |
Orange Line with a loop in Boston Common, back down Commonwealth. Same route as yesterday. Feeling a little bit better, but was pretty tense and couldn't relax my upper body. HR was down to 43BPM, which is a good sign. Knee has been tighter than normal, starting to get me worried. Still stretching, etc. and hoping everything will be OK. |
4 |
| Wednesday PM: |
Fresh Pond around the Pond. Waited a few minutes before getting rolling today, picked it up around Tang and kept it fast and easy the rest of the way. Legs feeling decently fresh and loose today. Path around the pond was icy at first, slow going but eventually cleared up. Coming down Mass Ave I kept it relaxed, but still wound up running 60:50 for the loop. Was just feeling good and was locked into it today. Still worried about the IT Band/knee, same stuff from last year. It feels weaker than normal right now, trying to keep stretching it and doing the foam roller and using The Stick, guess I should add some drugs to the mix too. |
10 |
| Wednesday AM: |
Orange Line to the Common, loop inside the Common, back down Commonwealth. Legs very, very sore this morning. Took quite awhile to loosen up, eventually started to feel better. HR coming back down, 45BPM last night. |
4 |
| Tuesday PM: |
2x800 2:15, 14 (window 2:15); 6x800 64, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4 (64-6); 6x200 30, 30, 30, 30, 30, 30 (31-32). Finally able to run a good workout. Got out in 33 for both 8s, came through in 68 and 67-high respectively and 1:41 for both. Made a point of getting out well for the 8s, that has been the weakest part of the workouts thus far. For the fours I'd get out in 31-32 and focus on staying strong and holding form on the second half. Deuces were jokey, running under control and trying to stay aggressive and on my toes. Warmed up with a BU Loop, was a bit concerned about the IT band, it had been tight all day and there was a little pain at the end of the loop, but I did the foam roller again before the workout and didn't have any problems. Cooled down 4M with a Harvard Loop (Almost Fake Fresh) with Driver. Much happier with this workout, things are starting to come around, able to stay relaxed the whole workout. Feeling good today. Need to be able to run this type of workout even when things aren't going so well. |
10 |
| Tuesday AM: |
Orange Line. Got about 7.5 hours sleep, HR up to 47BPM. Feel fine though. Still nervous about the knee though, otherwise legs were fine this morning. Reluctant to get up and face the first day of classes though. |
3 |
| Monday PM: |
Docks. Set out with the distance crew, Driver pulled ahead from the start, C-Los and I were a few steps behind him. I was feeling pretty loose but didn't want to turn the heat up and sacrifice the workout tomorrow. Around the Fleet Center I pulled up even with Driver. We kept it cool to the Docks, where he got a couple steps on me. I cruised through the downtown section and C-Los and I set out through the Common and down the Mall. Caught up to Driver thanks to a few stop lights and DiGenova snuck up on us too. Kept it under the control back to campus, total time of 53. Maybe a bit too slow, but it wasn't ridiculously slow either. Kept the legs feeling fresh but it was a good effort nonetheless. |
8 |
| Monday AM: |
Orange Line to the Common, a small loop there and back down the Comm Ave. mall. Feeling a little tired today, the knee was sore/tight for the first few minutes, scared the hell out of me but it loosened up pretty quickly and didn't bother me the rest of the time. Made a point of stretching it and using The Stick. HR at 46BPM, a little bit of a sore throat, I don't know what's up. Reg Day, last day of freedom for me. |

| Sunday: |
West on Commonwealth to the Johnny Kelly statue in Newton, which is the 19M mark on the marathon route. Taking Commonwealth to the Reservoir is about 1/2M longer than taking Beacon, added on 4:00 at the end of the run just to be safe. Ran 91:00 door to door, 95:00 total. |

| Tuesday AM: |
Orange Line. Slept about 9 hours last night, HR at 45BPM. Felt alright out there this morning, took a little while to loosen up as always but legs weren't sore or stiff which is good. Something was pinching intermittently in my left ankle over the last 5-10 minutes of the run, couldn't figure out what was up, but it didn't hurt after the run, so I'm not worried about it. |

| Monday PM: |
Fresh Pond around the Pond. Woke up from a 30 minute nap and ran to campus, then took off with the distance guys. Quickly separated and kept the quick pace going. Hit Western Ave. in 10 minutes and was all alone. Pace slackened a bit on Mount Auburn due to icy sidewalks, and footing was pretty bad around the pond, put a lid on the pace, not able to go quite as fast as I wanted until I got back to the roads. Even there I didn't feel like I was hauling all that fast, just locked into a steady pace and covering ground well. Legs aching a little bit but nothing that was hindering the pace. Finished the run in 56 minutes, which is one of my fastest times over the route and pretty good considering the poor footing for parts of the run. Lifted and lunges afterwards. Hitting the track tomorrow for a workout, hopefully get to bed early tonight. |

| Monday AM: |
Orange Line to the Common then a loop and some extra around the Common before heading back through the Public Garden and down Commonwealth. The sidewalks were largely frozen over so footing was less than ideal and there were a few slow parts to the run, but all in all my legs felt good. Last night I felt horrible but got 8+ hours of sleep again and the HR was at 43BPM, hopefully I'll get a nap in this afternoon and start to feel more rested. |

| Sunday: |
Science Museum to Watertown Bridge Loop. Standard Sunday run, feeling decent out there today. Woke up around 9 but waited until noon to head out for the run. Running comfortable the first few miles, not pushing at all. It had been snowing off and on so there was a slight covering on the ground but nothing serious, but it was falling from the sky and making my legs wet and cold. Went under Elliot right at 41 minutes and began to push a bit, and after Arsenal I locked into a faster pace through to Watertown. Made the turn at 61 minutes but the pace slackend back to North Beacon. Paused at Arsenal to stretch out a bit, and the legs were a bit tight and sore when I started back up again. Going past Harvard I was moving at about a 6:00 clip I'd guess, but felt completely under control and wasn't straining at all. My legs were sore and tired but I was moving along well. Legs were getting cold and the shorts were soaked, felt like I was back in the old days, the pre-pants era. Finished up at 104:30, averaging a bit under 6:10 a mile. Pretty good run today, legs were feeling good, didn't push too hard or redline at all, but I feel like I'm advancing my fitness. Only one workout this week, but it's on the track, as we prepare for a battle with Williams this weekend. |

Finished up a decent week of training with a poor performance on the track. Dealt with the cold and it didn't impede training at all this week. Things were looking good at the start of the week, ran an awesome 17M on Sunday and felt I ran a decent workout on Monday. Got in a nice long day on Tuesday and Wednesday's workout was aimed at speed and felt good. Then things started going downhill a bit as my legs and body remained tired the rest of the week. I've been eating pretty well but need to put a greater emphasis on getting to sleep earlier. All in all this week has helped my fitness, but there is a lot more work to be done. January Miles : 236 |

| Saturday PM: |
Got home and convinced Verbal and Brewer to run an easy 5M with me. We wound our way over Beacon Hill and past Faneuil Hall, hit the outskirts of the North End before heading back to Government Center and Beacon Hill. Did a loop around the Common before heading back down the Mall. Nice and relaxed run, out there just talking and joking with the guys. |

| Saturday AM: |
Meet at Bates, 1500 and 3k. Woke up feeling a bit tired but wasn't too worried as I felt good on the warm up before the 15. Got out at a slow pace but picked it up on the second lap. Wound up running 4:09 which was pretty slow, but a decent recovery after we got out in 68 for the first quarter. Cooled down about a mile and did strides then put my feet up and waited for the 3k. Warming up for that my legs felt like junk and while I tried to put it out of my mind, I wasn't completely ready to go on the line. I gave myself too little time to warm up and wound up with only a stride or two before we got the gun. Led the first 2k then Joel Anderson passed me and I just sat on him until he ran away on the final lap. A very poor performance from me, not aggressive at all over the final k. Cooled down 3M with Driver then ate dinner and headed back home. Very disappointed in my performance today, need to figure out what I need to change to get things in order. |

| Friday PM: |
Fresh Pond. Running relaxed today, trying to keep it easy but my legs felt like crap. Went with Driver and Carlos, pace would occasionally start creeping up before I shut it back down again. Don't know why my legs felt so bad, just tired and sluggish the whole run. Strides didn't feel too terrible though, hopefully I was able to burn some of the junk out. Lifted and did lunges afterwards. |

| Friday AM: |
Longfellow-BU Loop. Took a while to get out of bed, legs aching and just beat. Slept 8+ hours and the HR was at 41BPM, so I don't exactly understand why I was dead tired. Waited until just after 10AM to get out the door, temps were around 2 degrees but it wasn't all that bad outside. Legs not a problem this morning, feeling good once I got rolling. Need to make a better effort at getting to bed early. |

| Thursday PM: |
Castle-Bunker Hill. Combined with the 1500 guys again, but today I had no intentions of breaking those guys. Took the whole run easy, used it as a recovery day. It was Brewer and I with Driver up ahead at the start, then Driver and I hooked up and opened a gap somehow from Prospect Hill over to Bunker Hill. We weren't pushing the pace at all and I can't explain how it happened that we separated like we did. Waited for them at the Bunker Hill Monument then followed the Freedom Trail back to the Fleet Center and ran Docks backwards from there. Everybody got into one of those pissing matches as we ran down Mem Drive, fairly enjoyable actually as nobody was hauling all out but everybody was inching the pace up bit by bit. I had originally planned on adding on afterwards, but I was cold and lazy so I headed upstairs for strides and stretching instead. Weather wasn't too bad out there today, worse than it's been but not the gloom and doom that was predicted. Hands got a bit cold as they always do, and coming back across Longfellow froze up the face pretty well, but it was nothing that couldn't be dealt with. Jogged the mile back home to cap off an easy day aimed at recovery. |

| Thursday AM: |
Orange Line. Feeling pretty beat up and pretty lazy this morning, so I decided to just go three. Wasn't as cold as it was rumoured to be, felt fine out there this morning. Light dusting of snow but no footing problems. Got loose pretty quickly and could have gone five, but like I said, I was lazy. |

| Wednesday PM: |
6x1:45 at the Boston Common. Ran over to campus and then warmed up to the Common with the guys. Only Khatch was missing today, knees still hurting him. Got into it and I could tell my legs weren't all there as they had been earlier in the week. Didn't have the turnover I wanted on the first two, still hitting a solid pace but didn't feel as fast as I hoped to. Got through the first three pretty quickly, surprised that it was already half over and my legs didn't feel that taxed. Numbers four and five were the best intervals, especially number five. Focused in on lifting the heels and trying to stay light on my feet. The sixth was a bit disappointing, didn't finish off as well as I hoped to, the stomach started acting up near the end. wasn't as careful about lunch and snacking as I should have been today, came back to bite me a bit. Cooled down to campus, face got pretty cold crossing that damned bridge, but no problems otherwise, legs felt good. Strides were decent, got up on my toes a bit, trying to find a way to be lighter on my feet when I'm running fast. Stretched out well and hit the mile back home. Happy with how today went, not a devastating workout but I'm not sure I got enough turnover for it to have been as helpful as it should have been. |

| Wednesday AM: |
Longfellow-BU Loop. Slept a little over 8 hours last night, HR at 43BPM again. Didn't feel too bad when i woke up, but it took a while to get loosened up this morning. Felt like I was able to shake things out well enough, hopefully got rid of some junk from yesterday and loosened up for this afternoon's workout. Temp was supposedly -1, but it didn't feel that bad out there. Along the Boston side of the Esplanade it was a bit cold because I was in the shade and the wind was blowing, but down Mem Drive and back from BU the sun was out and it wasn't bitterly cold. Still, it'll be nice when this arctic air passes. |

| Tuesday: |
Ran to campus along the Science Museum Loop then took off on Reservoir with Summit Ave add-on, with the Army of Milers in tow. Wound up getting to the front and keeping the pace honest from the start, battling the wind a little but nobody else took the pace. Got locked into pace as we passed BU and held that until the hills started coming. By then it was just Brewer and I, with Driver, Fivos and Carlos (CARLOS!) right on our heels. Got some separation from Brewer before Summit and again up Summit. After Summit it was just him and I, Fivos was a ways back, Driver had skipped the hill and Carlos turned back. Brewer mentioned he's got a workout tomorrow so we backed off a tad but kept the pace right around 6:00. Got to the Reservoir and headed around, footing was pretty solid, didn't have to back off the pace at all, just a little covering of ice and snow. Brewer stuck pretty close and caught up at the stoplight right at 40 minutes. Back on familiar ground Brewer locked into a quicker pace and we started trucking for home. Kept everything under control still right around 6:00. Got stuck at a few lights and Fivos caught up just past the Holiday Inn and the three of us ran home together. Some good strides afterwards and then stretching and lifting before jogging home the last mile. Fairly warm for the run today, but the wind started up and the arctic air started moving in for my run home across the bridge and the legs got fairly cold. Slept about 7 hours and the HR was 43BPM. Have decided to use the Tuesdays as another long distance day, at least through IAP. Knee was a little tight, but I couldn't tell if that was from using the foam roller before heading out with the guys, which may have fired it up a bit more. Still, need to keep on top of it so it doesn't become anything. Pretty wiped out when I got home, put the legs up for 15 minutes before cooking dinner, felt better afterwards. |

| Monday PM: |
4x4:00 in Boston Common. Ran over to campus from home then jogged back to the Boston Common as a warm up. Got rolling and pulled away on the first interval, Khatch was injured so I was all alone pretty quickly. Really felt like I was flying on the first one, moving easily and smoothly. Cut the rest down to 3:00 in between and made an effort to push the recovery. Got rolling on the second one too, not moving quite as fast, it didn't feel, but it was another solid effort and the pace must have been really close to the first one. Took another 3:00 rest before launching into it again, took a bit more effort to get into the third one, but got rolling again too. Cut the rest down to 2:00 before the final go at it, really didn't affect me too terribly, legs reset fairly quickly which is encouraging. A solid workout, a bit quicker than any others, at least that's how it felt, but didn't leave my legs feeling that decimated. Met back up with the guys before they went back down Beacon and I headed back along Orange Line to Mass Ave to add on a bit more. Got back to the track and hit some strides that were also feeling fast, before spending about an hour stretching and watching the rest of the team workout on the track. Jogged the mile back home alone to cap off a solid mileage day. |

| Monday AM: |
Woke up to about 2" <">of snow on the ground, and the Esplande wasn't plowed. Headed up Beacon Street past the Capitol and down to Devonshire before looping back onto Beacon and into the Common. Did a lap around the Common and headed back down the Comm Ave mall. Footing was pretty good, sidewalks largely shovelled and salted, and the Common was clear as normal. Beacon Hill took a bit of a toll on my legs, they were more tired than usual, which was a bit surprising. Slept 8 hours and the HR was at 42BPM overnight, so it was probably just residual affect from yesterday's run. |

| Sunday: |
Watertown to Science Museum Loop. My stuff got stuck in the lockerroom because the dinner for Gordon Kelley lasted a lot longer than I anticipated it to, so I had to go from campus instead of from home. Started a bit before 1PM and was feeling pretty good. Legs felt fresh and I was getting really good turnover through Watertown Bridge. Made the turn at 39 minutes, I was running a little quicker than I probably should have because I'm used to finishing up back home, but today I had to add on 20 minutes more. About 45 minutes in my legs started to tire, dropped off pace a bit between North Beacon and Arsenal, but caught myself and forced my legs back on pace. Held pretty constant through JFK Street, where things started getting long. Focused on just getting to each bridge, taking it one at a time. Got to where I typically get on the Esplanade in 1:22, then my hamstrings started to get tight and my legs started to really tie up. The last 20 minutes were very long and pretty painful. My right hip and right knee were a little fired up, but nothing impeding the pace at all. Wound up running 1:42 for the loop, averaging about 6:00 per mile. |

Really happy with how things went this week. Two solid workouts, but both need to be improved on. Good to get back to long runs on Sunday again, that had really been lacking recently. Got flying on Thursday and convinced myself that I'm in pretty decent shape. I had just assumed I was a bit behind where I was last year since I had been turning mid-90M weeks, but I think that the mental aspect is much better and the fitness honestly isn't much worse than it was last year, so it's time to start expecting more from myself. Happy with how things turned out on Saturday, but there's still more to do. January Miles : 133 |

| Saturday PM: |
5000m at Alumni in 15:10. Hit the warmup and was feeling loose and relaxed, planned on just running 36s and coming through 4000 in 12:00 then hammering down and hopefully hitting 14:55 or so. Fell off pace about halfway through, the third k was pretty rough, then my left foot started getting a bad blister, managed to stay on pace a lot better than I did at Intrasquad. Disappointed I couldn't hit my goal time, but happy with the performance since I was running all alone after 2 laps. Had Tom put a pad on the blister so I wouldn't be putting as much pressure on it, then hit a BU Loop with Nolan and ran Fresh Pond alone to round out the cooldown mileage. Still got a lot of work to do. |

| Saturday AM: |
Orange Line for a shakeout. Got out of bed at 7:20, after hitting Snooze a few times. Felt really groggy and tired, had planned on doing this shakeout anyways, but it helped wake me up so I was glad I was going. Laced up a new pair of shoes and hit the 0 degree temps. Felt pretty loose and strong, excited about this afternoon. Came home and showered then headed over to watch the pentathlon. |

| Friday: |
Fresh Pond. Woke up this morning and it was 1 degree outside, with a windchill of -20, and I had left my hat and gloves in the lockerroom, so no AM run. Freezing my ass off on the PM run, but after 15 minutes or so I got adjusted and it wasn't that bad the rest of the way. Driver and I locked into a good pace from the start and kept it there the whole way. Most of the guys went Fake Fresh, so it was just him and I the rest of the way. Resisted the urge to pick it up down Mass Ave, held it fairly steady back to campus. Was debating with myself whether or not I should add on afterwards, decided to be lazy and "rest up" by keeping it at 7M and getting out of the cold. Felt pretty good during strides, legs had a fair amount of pop for the volume of training and lack of speedwork that I've had thus far. We'll see how things play out tomorrow. |

| Thursday PM: |
Docks plus 2 Grass Loops. Ran with Fivos and Verbal today, got into a quick pace from the start. Pretty soon myself, Fivos and Driver had separated from the rest of the group. Picked up the pace after the Fleet Center, probably dropping below 6:00 a mile. Going through the Marriot it was just Fivos and me, with Driver about 10m behind. The pace held steady around the Docks and past the World Trade Center. Thought about starting to really hammer and break Fivos, but let the pace lag a bit, trying to keep the legs a little sharp for Saturday. Coming through the Commons I started to pull away a bit, opened up a little gap across the bridge, as my face froze in the freezing winds. Ran the two Grass Loops in about 5:25 each, keeping the pace in the low 6:00s. Strides felt pretty good up on the track, did sprint drills then headed for home. |
10 |
| Thursday AM: |
Longfellow-BU Loop. Ran about 10AM this morning, need to work on getting out the door earlier, but it's tough when it's 13 degrees outside. Not that bad really, wind was pretty cold but it didn't bother too much. Hamstrings tight at the start, like they were for the workout yesterday, but they loosened up and I forgot about them pretty quickly. Not much else of note, the lazy days of IAP are kicking in. |

| Wednesday: |
6x2:20. Slept until 11AM this morning, so didn't get out on the roads this morning either. After taking Kathryn to the airport I headed to Boston Common along the Orange Line. Started the workout around the Common, wound up running 4+ laps. Feeling pretty good through all 6 intervals. The first three passed by pretty quickly, and uneventfully. Refocused on number four and pounded out a good one. Faded a bit on the fifth one, more from a mental lapse than tired legs, managed to get things back in gear on the final one and got moving pretty quick. Cooled down back along the Orange Line and added on down Comm Ave another mile. Deceptively tiring workout, legs pretty dead by the end but no single interval kicked my ass, it was just the cumulative effect that took it's toll. |

| Tuesday: |
Reservoir with Summit Ave add-on, plus 2 Grass Loops. Too lazy to get out of bed this morning, ran from home and added on afterwards to accomodate. Diger and I were the only two to head up Summit, locked into a solid pace afterwards and carried it all the way through. Hitting roughly 6:20s, feeling good and just relaxed today. Took a pitstop at the Holiday Inn before returning to campus for two circuits on the frozen practice fields. Calf felt pretty tight on the strides but not much of an issue during the run. Lifted and did lunges afterwards, before jogging the mile home with Brewer. Decent mileage day, wound up pretty tired at the end of it all. |
14 |
| Monday PM: |
4x5:00. Started from home and ran over to campus in the 36-degree slightly rainy weather. Got started a bit after 4PM, hit the warmup at a decent clip, understandable since it was the first time the guys have been together in 3 weeks. Hit the first one fast, Khatch came with me and we started hauling. About 2:30 in I pulled away from him, wound up about 75m in front. We decided to cut the rest down to just 4:00 and kept it at a decent pace. The second one was much the same, he stuck with me almost halfway then I pulled away. He told me his plan was to hang onto me as long as possible, which I respect a lot, but set my mind to breaking him down. Number three was lacking a bit, about 3:30 in I felt myself slowing down a bit, didn't finish as hard or as fast as I would have liked. Reset and started out well on #4, kicking the heels up high and getting good turnover, legs felt fresher but faded in the middle. Brough it back for the last 0:45 though, got moving fast again. Really good workout in my opinion, good to be running with guys again. Did strides with Eric back on the track, then ran home with Brewer to finish off the mileage. |

| Monday AM: |
Orange Line. Feeling alright this morning, a little tired but I slept 8+ hours so I don't really know why. Legs and feet finally feeling good again, all the aches and pains are gone. Left calf was kind of tight, need to pay attention to that and make sure today's workout doesn't mess it up. Wasn't the best day for the defense, but you can't hold The Team of Destiny down. |
3 |
| Sunday: |
Science Museum to Watertown Bridge Loop. started about 9AM, had to get the run out of the way before The Team of Destiny takes the field this afternoon. Feeling alright from the start, legs a little stiff but they loosened up pretty quickly. Took a break 25 minutes in to stretch out the right IT/knee, no problems after that. Pretty much just locked into a solid pace today, running what my legs would allow without pushing too hard. Made the turn at 62 minutes, struggling a bit because of stomach problems. Hit the McDonald's just past North Beacon Street Bridge and that was a big help. Feeling good the rest of the way home, legs tied up over the last 2M, just kept trucking at a solid pace though, avoided pressing too much, kept it within myself. This week looks to be much the same as the past 3, but the big Alumni meet's on Saturday. Speaking of the old broken guys, saw Yuval just past Arsenal on the way home, stopped to say "Hi." Beautiful day outside, close to 50 degrees at the start. Cooled off a bit near the end and a bit of rain started falling, really nice day to run, just shorts and TShirt today. |

A week of decent mileage, got in a couple runs of 14M but really messed up on Sunday. It was helpful to be able to run a few times with Nick End before heading back to Boston on Friday. Need to get better with AM runs, the mileage will bump up a bit when those come around, but 95M is a solid total for this week. Got in two good workouts, especially Thursday's, that really helped my confidence about my fitness, good to see that the mileage and work is paying off. January Mileage : 36 |

| Saturday: |
BC plus Summit Ave and added on with an Orange Line loop afterwards. Feeling pretty good today, running about 6:20-6:30s just cruising today. Locked into a good clip and just let the miles fly past. Picked it up to 6:10-6:15s near the end, loosened up and the pace naturally increased. Didn't put a lot of focus into today's run, just logging miles. Slept for almost 11 hours last night, used today to just relax and recouperate. |
14 |
| Friday: |
Fresh Pond from the house. Didn't go around the pond, but the extra miles from home bumped up the mileage. Today was supposed to be a hard day, locked into a quick pace from the start, but didn't really start hammering hard until the last few miles, that was a bit too late to get really tired though. Still got a good run in, faster than it would have otherwise been. Got up at 5:15 this morning and flew out to Boston with Kathryn, got out the door about 3PM. |
10 |
| Thursday: |
6x2:20 along the Bender Loop, extended the cooldown to Kenwood and back. Didn't feel too much like running when I woke up this morning, sat around watching bowl games and then started packing. Got out the door around 3:30. Feeling good from the start, ran the 2M warmup a little faster than normal, started the workout off with a great first interval. Feeling good on the second and third as well, getting the legs pretty tired and dealing with fatigue a lot better than I have been of late. Really focused on running number 4 well, got flying down the Parkway but still felt under control. Number five wasn't as solid as the rest, the little climb took my mind off it, but I finished with a good last 30 seconds. Number six was a solid one too, had to hesitate a bit as I hit the stoplight at Port Road but timed it perfectly and kept trucking through. Got to where I finished last week and had 0:45 left, so I hammered down some more and finished up well. Tacked on the 5+M cooldown to compensate a bit for slacking off this morning. Ran the 5M from Klode to my house in 32:30, hitting a little over 6:30s for the first 3M before dropping to 6:20s over the last 2. This was hands down the best workout I've had since the first 4x5:00 at the start of the season, a whole month ago. The miles are starting to pay off and my fitness is coming back to me, just in time too. Great way to start off 2004. |

| Wednesday PM: |
Art Museum backwards. Planned on adding in an inner loop, but was beset by stomach difficulties and came home. Added on 2M by going out and back south down Lake Drive. Not much of an interesting run today, feeling pretty good before my stomach got upset. My shoe keeps putting pressure on the top of my left foot, had to stop a few times to mess around with the tongue trying to ease the pressure. Otherwise legs are feeling rested and pretty solid. December Miles : 361 |

| Wednesday AM: |
South through Lake Park to LaFayette and back. Legs feeling pretty heavy at the start, probably from the longer day yesterday. Eventually loosened up though and started feeling pretty good. Thought about extending it into a longer run but decided against it. |

| Tuesday PM: |
Same route as yesterday. Officially lost the Ray Molnar challenge as I headed out in pants for this one. Alas, some things are not destined to be. Feet still ache a bit at the start of runs, sticking on the grass the majority of the run to help them out. Need to get on a regular ice/ibuprofen schedule. |

| Tuesday AM: |
Bender with an add-on down the Parkway to Good Hope. Ran over to End's house and we went together this morning. Wanted to get in some extra to accomodate for Sunday's botch and End wanted to go long too, so it worked out. Legs feeling pretty good at the start, clipping along with End. Nice day, sunny and fairly warm out. Stopped at the 7-11 at Bender and Silver Spring for a quick pit stop, then back at it. Started hitting 6:00s and a bit quicker for the last 3+M, with the last mile at 5:45. Finished up to my house in 1:26, best run I've had in a while. Legs started falling apart right between 11 and 12M, I think it's due to my lack of long runs recently, but it could also be related to the tempo workout yesterday. Either way, I'm satisfied with it, I'll get out again a bit later to add on a few more. |
14 |
| Monday PM: |
South along Lake through Lake Park to St. Mary's and back home. Running about 6:45s, just trying to get the lactic acid out of my legs, didn't get in a very effective cooldown this morning. Legs felt tired/sore but it was definitely just the remaining lactic acid, I know that feeling too well. |

| Monday AM: |
4x5:00. End bailed on me because of a sore Achilles, so I was alone again today. First half was really solid, the first one was fast and got my legs tired, and I really blasted the second one. Fell apart a bit, lost focus over the last 45 seconds, but otherwise a really solid interval. Stomach started complaining during the rest and that distracted me a abit, but the third interval wound up pretty well, despite a bit of a slow start. Fourth one was pretty worthless, running about 5:10-5:20 pace and not aggressive at all. Still haven't been able to put together a solid workout which is disappointing. Cooled down 2M in just under 14:00 back home as the stomach situation deteriorated. |

| Sunday: |
Art Museum down past Big Bay. Really screwed up today, wound up watching football all afternoon and didn't get out the door until after the Packers secured their playoff spot. Not feeling too excited about running, stomach was upset and legs were tired. Wound up running fairly slowly, about 6:30s, took a pit stop at home after the Art Museum loop and couldn't motivate myself to run much more than down to Big Bay and back. Hopefully I'll be able to absorb this lower mileage day, planning on upping Tuesday's run to compensate a bit. |

Another solid week of mileage, legs starting to come around finally. Unfortunately I had to cut it short on Sunday, but Monday's workout got me back on track. Just logging miles on Tuesday and Wednesday, keeping the legs fresh. Thursday's workout was probably the best since I got sick a couple weeks ago, really got the legs tired and had to deal with lactic acid again. Friday was another good run, got it in at a fast and hard pace, but even though I was moving pretty quick I didn't feel like I was redlining or even hammering that much. Both Friday and Saturday I cut the mileage back a bit to let the legs recover. December Miles : 302 |

Bender plus a little extra. Ran for 8 or 9M with End today, he's doing pretty well, on the comeback trail after a small injury. Hit 6:10-6:30s the whole way, just locked in and catching up. First time I've seen End since Nationals. Legs felt like junk today, probably due to 2 hard days in conjunction with volume and intensity of the past 2 weeks. Got into it and the legs weren't that big of a deal, but the IT band was pretty tight still. Stopped at home for a quick pit stop after the first 10M, then went down to Kenwood and back. Had wanted to go 14M, but figured the tight IT and junky legs were good clues to cut it short. |

| Friday: |
Bender Loop. Was lazy this morning and slept in, which was probably a good play. Planning on adding on a bit to accomodate, but my knee was a bit fired up this morning, stopped to stretch it out after just 30 seconds. That, coupled with the left ankle and right foot, to say nothing of a tight IT band made me think a down day was in order. After raising both volume and intensity for nearly 2 weeks it couldn't hurt. Of course, today was a hard mileage day, so I just ran Bender fast. After about 9 minutes of goofing off I got down to business and locked in through the 7+M mark in Klode. Running pretty quick through the first 7M, but not focused inently on hammering, just locked in and hauling. The slight uphill to Port Road got me in debt pretty well, from then on my legs were pretty heavy. Hit 5:25, 5:35, 5:25 for the last 3M home from Klode, hit the whole loop in 57:35. Quads started to tie up over the last mile, as did my hamstrings up high by my ass. All in all a solid day, not a completely down day because of the effort today, but at least the mileage isn't as high and I got a fair bit in on grass along the loop. Happy with the run, about a minute and a half quicker than last week, especially when you consider that yesterday I had a fartlek and last week was just an 8M day beforehand. Hopefully things are turning around. |

| Thursday PM: |
Lake Park Golf Course. Just jogging the miles this afternoon, loosening up a bit after the morning's workout and working up a larger appetite for Christmas dinner. Stuck on the grass the whole way, trying to lighten up on the pounding. |

| Thursday AM: |
6x2:20 along the Bender Loop. That's right, fartlek on Christmas morning. Feels like I'm making steady progress, legs are coming back around slowly. Got moving at a decent pace, supposed to be simulating 600-800m accelerations. Definitely got the legs tired quickly, numbers one to three were solid. Had a little pain in my left ankle along with the rest of the little aches and pains. The ankle pain subsided and, as usual, once the foot got loosened up it wasn't a problem either. Number five was probably the best out of all of them, number six didn't feel that strong, fighting against lactic acid and fatigue. Cooled down the 3+M from the JCC back home, feeling really heavy on my feet and fairly slow. Holding 6:10-30 for the cooldown miles. Highlight of the day was walking along Lake when a van with a menorah strapped on top of it drove by and wished me a Happy Hanukkah through a loudspeaker. |

| Wednesday PM: |
Bender Loop backwards. Pretty uneventful run, just relaxing and getting in the miles. Ran about 6:30s the whole way, nice and steady. Had a pretty bad stomach ache before I started, wasn't a problem until about 6 or 7M into the run. Jumped into a gas station and avoided any problems. Thought about going 12M, but decided against it. Legs feeling a bit tired, lethargic, but maybe I'm just a bit apathetic about running on Christmas Eve. IT Band and right knee aching a bit half an hour in but a quick stretch took care of it. Stretched it out well when I got home, found a little knot on the IT, going to go over it with The Stick, hopefully it'll work itself out without too much of a problem. Sidewalks still a bit snowy and slippery, but shouldn't be a big problem for tomorrow's fartlek. |

| Wednesday AM: |
South along Lake into Lake Park, then ran tee to green along the par-3 course there. Dusting of snow and the sidewalks are slippery in places. Got the majority of this run in on grass, that felt good. Nothing much going on, just stretching it out this morning. |

| Tuesday PM: |
Art Museum backwards, with a 2M innerloop up St. Mary's over to the Brady Street Footbridge and back. Feeling pretty solid today, just resting up and getting miles. Didn't try to push it at all, running comfortable and quick. Snow was falling, and accumulating on the sidewalk over the last 2M or so. Felt pretty strong up the hills, but again, didn't hammer at all. Last half mile was a shade under 3:00. Solid run and a solid mileage day. |
10 |
| Tuesday AM: |
Down Lake to Kenwood, over to Oakland and then to Morris and onto Wilson through some side streets. North to Kensington, up to Lake and home. Turned out to be very close to 6M, should've gone one more street over maybe. Holding about 6:15-6:30s the whole way. Took a few minutes for the foot to loosen up, otherwise no problems. |

| Monday PM: |
Out the door a bit before 11:30PM, after watching the end of the Packers game. Thought I'd let my legs decide how far to go, only went 4M, quads got really sore over the last half mile or so, can't explain it, maybe just clearing out junk left over from the workout. Plantar on my right foot is a bit tender, figure it's just from breaking in the new kicks. |
4 |
| Monday AM: |
4x5:00 along the Bender route. Legs feeling pretty crappy at the start of the 2M warmup, the past 3 days have all been really good, maybe it's taking a bit of a toll on me. First one didn't feel too good, don't think I got rolling too well. Second one was remarkably better though, got rolling, got into a bit of debt and could feel some lactic acid. Third one was solid too, and caught a half-mile split on #4 that was right at 2:30. Still a bit off of where I would like to see it, but at least it's not total crap, and I can run all 4 decently. Still don't feel like I'm switching gears that well, don't feel an immediate response when I try to accelerate or hammer. It'll come around. |

| Sunday: |
North along Lake Drive. Set out on the usual Sunday long run route, got to 8M in 51 minutes, feeling pretty good. Quickly deteriorated as I needed to find a bathroom. Took a couple shortcuts and walked a few times until I got to a Port-A-John at the 4M mark. Feeling decent after that, got back on 6:30s for the last 4M home. Big let down, as I was starting to hit a groove when everything fell apart. Would have been a decent run and made some improvements, but it didn't really feel like I got that much benefit out of the run today. |

| Week 03
12/14-12/20 |
Solid week of mileage, feels good to be back at it again. Sunday's run was good, not an amazing pace but I'm glad I kicked up the length of my long run. Monday and Wednesday's workouts were nothing amazing, didn't get into much lactic acid, didn't feel like I brought a lot of speed, trying to work hard but couldn't make my body hurt. Had good runs on Friday and Saturday to round out the week, back in Wisconsin. Still trying to figure out what's up with my legs and where my sense of pace has gone. We'll see how my legs respond to the upped mileage and intensity, and the weeks of rest now that the term is over. December Miles : 207 |

| Saturday: |
Art Museum then down to Klode and back. Feeling a little sore and tired at the start of the run, left at 10:30 so I could watch the Wisconsin-Marquette game this afternoon. Made the mistake of leaving my shoes at the backdoor, which isn't very well insulated, and they were rock hard for a few miles before finally loosening up. Felt comfortable the first 6M, they kind of slipped by. Legs started to tie up about 7M in, which wasn't very encouraging. Checked the 8th mile split, from Kenwood to Capitol and it was 5:48. Locked into 5:40-5:50 pace the rest of the way. Felt like I was running 6:15-6:30s though, and struggling with that. Didn't feel too fast, or that I was about to fall apart, legs just felt sore and tired most of the way. Ran the last 7M in 40:40, averaging a bit under 5:50 per. Got back and was really tight, took a bit of stretching before I loosened up. |
14 |
| Friday: |
Bender Loop, with a 2M add-on down to Kenwood at the end. Supposed to run the mileage hard today, so after about 7 minutes I made a concerted effort to push the pace. Didn't feel like I was overexerting though, felt comfortable and locked in, moving along the loop. Didn't really start feeling the lactic acid until the last 1000m, and then I relaxed and the pain subsided. Don't feel like I was redlining at all during the run, didn't feel like I could shift gears that well either. Put a watch on the last mile though, and even though the effort felt relaxed, and I was expecting something around 6:00, I wound up running 5:21. Pushed the middle section really well, but over the last quarter mile I felt like I was losing focus and had relaxed too much. I continue to wonder what the deal is with my legs these days, I feel like I have no sense of pace. Ran the loop, which has been clocked at 10.25M by Yuval on a bike, in 59 minutes, which averages out to 5:45s, but I felt like I was running 5:50-6:10 for the majority of the way. Hit the cooldown miles in the 6:40s. Added them on because I skipped the morning run as I didn't have shoes. Since my old ones had been pushing 600M I left them in Boston and bought new ones this afternoon. Same old Motos, hopefully they'll relieve the little aches that have cropped up, nothing major though. |

| Thursday: |
Docks. Out the door at 7AM because of a 9AM final and a 3:15PM flight home. Just doing one run today, giving myself a down day to recover a bit and also to accomodate travelling. Feeling pretty good, hitting a nice solid pace pretty much from the gun, legs got fatigued about 15-20 minutes in, but stayed at a constant level of fatigue, didn't worsen at all. Wound up running 49-flat for the loop, a solid time that I wasn't expecting to hit. I really don't know why it feels like I've lost all sense of pace. Hopefully things'll start to turn around as the training catches up to me and my fitness improves. |

| Wednesday PM: |
Ran over to NE43 to check out my 6.034 final grade with Verbal. He stuck around to fight for some extra points and I headed through Kendall and across Longfellow. Ran up Beacon Hill and down to the Public Garden, onto the Mall and back home. Feeling pretty loose during the run, wound up standing around for 20 mins checking over the final with Verbal, got back out and it had started raining. Not anything much to speak of. |

| Wednesday AM: |
6x2:20 around Boston Common. Orange Line for a warm up and cool down. Went about 9AM this morning, frees up the rest of the day for studying. Felt like I hit 3.5 solid ones, the fourth one was where I started to fall apart, and numbers 5 and 6 weren't anything amazing. Still the best workout in awhile though, got closer to redlining it, definitely got lactic acid flowing in my legs. Feel like I've lost the ability to switch gears though, don't really have an explanation for it. Pretty warm today, in the 40s and sunny, best weather we've had for a few weeks. Workout was supposed to be tomorrow, but I'm travelling then, so I pushed it up a day. Hopefully today is a step in the right direction and I'm on the way back in terms of solid training. |
9 |
| Tuesday PM: |
Down Comm Ave to BU Bridge, across and latched onto the back-end of the warm up loop to Mass Ave, then home across the bridge. Legs feeling pretty good, thought maybe they'd be tired as the mileage starts to catch up, but not yet. |

| Tuesday AM: |
Fresh Pond from home. Alarm got reset during the night, so I got rolling at 7:30AM, instead of 6:15. Not a big tragedy, just means I have less time to study. Feeling pretty solid this morning, took awhile to get into it, not accustomed to getting the long run in in the AM. Got moving at a decent pace, not pushing. Resting up because I'm afraid this week will start to take it's toll very soon, and I have to move the workout from Thursday to Wednesday. Icier out there today, there were a few slow parts of shuffling over large ice patches and such. It's nice to get it in early, I like running with the sun coming up instead of going down. Switched up the runs today because I've got an exam in the afternoon, and I want to be able to just hit a short run after it, instead of having to log a bunch of miles. |
10 |
| Monday PM: |
4x5:00 fartlek @ Boston Common. Headed down to the Common via Orange Line for the workout, came back along Orange Line as well to bump the mileage a bit. Small patches of ice, but nothing major, made me cut stride occasionally though. Once I got to the Common I was able to roll, everything had been plowed and salted/sanded so there was plenty of traction. Only 2 spots were a bit iffy, and those weren't even that big of a deal. Workout was solid, but not devastating. First two weren't that aggressive, definitely not hurting enough. Made more of an effort to get moving on third and fourth, got going pretty well. Don't know exactly what's up with my legs, don't feel like I have a lot of control over pace right now. Both Saturday and Sunday's runs I was locked in pretty well, but not feeling like I was moving. Need to work on being able to get into that higher gear, and the workouts of late haven't been helping too much. Still time to get my house in order, and the mileage chase continues. |

| Monday AM: |
Loop around Boston Common. Out the door about 7AM, wanted to check out if the Common would be ready to go for the tempo run this afternoon. Early indications are no. Snowed last night, which turned into rain and left slush everywhere. Luckily the temps stayed above freezing and it's not a sheet of ice, just a bunch of puddles of freezing water at every intersection. Feet pretty cold at the end of this morning's run. Kicking off final's week with one today. |

| Sunday: |
Science Museum-Watertown Bridge Loop. Broke out the old standby for one more Sunday run. It's becoming painfully obvious that I have a lot of work left to do. Feeling pretty good at the start, got out the door at 8:30AM, already running an hour behind schedule. Legs were responding well, it wasn't too cold out and the Esplanade was clear of snow and ice. Nothing too exciting happening, hit Eliot Street Bridge and there was the usual sheet of ice which demanded walking. That also marked the end of the plowed Esplanade, so I had to stick it out in the street the rest of the way to Watertown, and back to North Beacon Street on the other side. Made the turn at about 63-64 minutes, not too bad, a little slower than usual though. Had to take a pitstop at the McDonalds between North Beacon and Arsenal. Got back at it and the legs were moving, nothing spectactular but a pretty good clip. From JFK Street home though, so the last 3+M, it was taking a bit more effort to keep them going. Definitely not trucking today, but pushing a bit beyond my current limits and hopefully making some solid improvements. Ran 1:48 for the loop, about 6:20 per mile. Got going early for two reasons, 1) I need to study a lot today and wanted to get up and get it out of the way and 2) there are rumors of another big snowstorm hitting this afternoon, and I want no part of that. Exams Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and flying home Thursday afternoon, so that looks to be a shorter, rest day, but the rest of the week should have some solid mileage, and hopefully I'll nail the two workouts as well. |

12/07-12/13 |
A difficult week to run, and a disappointing one at that. Struggled through a terrible 4xmile workout on the track and sucked ass on the fartlek on Wednesday. Sunday was dealing with the snowstorm and sub-par mileage and conditions. Finally got in a solid day on Thursday, and some decent mileage, but then Friday my legs got tied up during a 7 miler. Saturday, well, that was just disappointing, but then I hit a solid 10M cooldown run without straining. I think that I'm really hit and miss right now for a few different reasons. Last week's training was up and down due to the illness, I didn't really get into a training mindset until late this week and this sickness may still be lingering. But all of those things should be smoothing out and disappearing, and none of these things are beyond being cured by a few 100M weeks. December Miles : 115 |

| Saturday: |
3,000m at Intrasquad in 9:10.36. Horrible, horrible race. Got out in 35, feeling strong. Hit a 34 then two more 35s, decent pace, a bit off where I hoped to be. And then I dropped to 36s and God knows what else. Still felt good through 2k, but the last 5 laps I was tying up and didn't want to be out on that track anymore. Don't really have an explanation for it, I felt fast during strides and thought I was ready to roll, I got out by myself early and then, nothing. Honestly, I shouldn't have a problem breaking 9:00 running alone, regardless of anything. Don't know precisely what's wrong, have a feeling it's the low mileage though. A couple of 100M weeks should fix things though, and IAP is rolling around. Went Fresh Pond around the Pond afterwards, locked into a solid pace from the get and things were feeling good. Wound up hitting 60:19 roundtrip, a pretty solid pace, with or without the race beforehand. |

| Friday PM: |
Fresh Pond. Headed out and got into it early, a little faster than I wanted to today. Managed to back off slightly, around the turn off of Mem Drive and onto Mount Auburn. Legs got a bit tired on the way home, just outside of Harvard Square. That's a bit disturbing. It was nothing too bad, probably just one of those things. Made a focused effort at blowing it out of the legs during strides, hopefully that helped. Will kick the legs up a bit, want to be on point for tomorrow. Nice to have these lazy days of just lying around, started Running with the Buffaloes again, I should probably lay off until after finals though. |

| Friday AM: |
Orange Line. Did my best to skip this AM run, but managed to catch it. Slept past the alarm, again. That's becoming a disturbing trend. Took a few minutes to get loosened up, things were pretty sore and stiff. Got into the flow, and things started feeling good. Weather was in the 30s with a bit of ice here and there. |

| Thursday: |
Docks plus Tunnels. Intended to get up and hit an AM run, but slept through the alarm. Just condensed it all in the afternoon today. Ran to campus from home, then got out on the roads with the distance crew. It had been raining all day, with temps in the upper 40s, so the sidewalks were mostly clear, but plenty of puddles around. Feet soaked very quickly, wound up not caring too much about that. Ran behind Driver for a ways, until after the Fleet Center when I dropped the hammer and we ducked into the sub 6s for a stretch. Let up through the Common and down Commonwealth, then ducked inside for an extra 2M to bump up the mileage. Took an easy mile back home after stretching, strides and sprint drills. Hamstrings still feeling tight during strides, need to keep stretching them out all night. Finally got in a solid day again, got a really good run under the belt for the first time in a while. HR is still a bit high, but I think I'm getting healthy and coming out of this downswing. Not too sure about what'll happen on Saturday. |

| Wednesday: |
Headed over to Boston Common for a fartlek today. Brewer had the good idea of heading over there, all the paths have been plowed and sanded, wide open with plenty of traction. Just did laps around the perimeter there, ran 6x2:20, supposed to be 800m accelerations. Legs feeling pretty good today, but I've still got a bit of an upset stomach, and that hurt me today. After the first 2 I felt like I needed to puke, and the last one was horrible as my stomach really started to hurt. Ran decently well today, but not what I expect from these workouts. Didn't run a single good one, each one started out slow and built up. The workout as a whole wasn't that devastating, never got out and redlined it, never got moving all that fast. It's been awhile since I've had a good workout, need to figure out what's going on. Both hamstrings were pretty tight for the duration of today's workout, too. |

| Tuesday: |
Castle, over to Bunker Hill and back. Trying to avoid bridges, since they haven't been plowed for the most part. Footing was a lot better today, able to stay in the roads for a lot of the mileage too. Running at a solid clip, definitely not hammering though. Got in a couple good hills, legs more tired for the pace and course than they should have been. Legs staying warm throughout, until we were coming back down Mass Ave and I was running down the side of the road, through a bunch of puddles and slush and cars were splashing up on me, hammies and calves started getting cold and tight. Finished up with strides upstairs, felt fast but both hamstrings were tight, a bit scary. Need to focus on stretching and getting loose again. |
10 |
| Monday: |
4x1600m. 4:46, 4:50, 4:54, 5:01. Decided that we wouldn't be able to get any kind of a workout in on the roads, since the snow is everywhere and none of the sidewalks are cleared. Didn't have a very firm window, shooting for high 4:40s low 4:50s. Happy with the first two, after that I wasn't really able to keep the intensity where I wanted it for the interval. Maybe I'm still a little fatigued from being sick, legs got tired during warmup strides. A lot like last week's in that I didn't get out quickly on the third and fourth intervals. Pretty disappointed in the way things went today, not as focused as I needed to be, definitely showed that my fitness and strength are nowhere near where they need to be. Lots of work to be done, got to get down to it. Cooled down with 3M through the tunnels. |

| Sunday: |
BC, with an add on down Commonwealth at the end. Hit the road with Verbal after watching (via NFL.com's GameCenter) the Packers beat the Bears. People are slowly shovelling out, basically all the snow has fallen that's going to fall. Took a look at the Esplanade, but that hasn't been touched yet, I had hoped they'd plowed it already, but I guess they haven't gotten to that yet. Headed down through Kenmore and out Commonwealth. Running there worked pretty well, because of the "frontage road" that runs alongside, it was pretty well plowed and there were tire tracks to run in, so it worked out. Not a whole lot of traction going up and down hills, but better than slogging through ankle deep stuff. Stayed on the road on Beacon on the way home, worked pretty well too. Like yesterday, not a great workout for the legs, but at least I'm getting back in the saddle and the itch is coming back. I was getting pretty rundown and dejected while I was sick. Looks like the weather's going to warm up a little, hopefully the sidewalks will clear and I can start some decent training. Don't know what the call will be on the fartlek tomorrow. Only an occasional cough and a bit of a runny nose persist from last week's sickness. Need to stay atop this thing and make sure I put it to bed. |

Pretty bad first week back. Got in a solid day on Sunday after coming home from Spain, and hit a good first workout on Monday, then things went downhill because of the illness. Felt like trash on Tuesday and it ruined my workout on Thursday. Wednesday was a pretty good day, but not as fast or hard as I would have liked. It hurt to take Friday completely off, but I knew I needed it, better to sacrifice a day to get healthy than to log a week of subpar days fighting this thing. The weather on Saturday really prevented a solid run, which I was looking forward to. At least it's still early and I've got some time to recoup the lost time. December Miles : 42 |

| Saturday: |
Bunker Hill with Brewer and Fivos. Got to the ZCenter as it was closing due to the snowstorm, so we grabbed our stuff and headed over to Fivos' dorm room to change. It was snowing all day long, by the time we got rolling the sidewalks were snowed in and pretty unrunnable, so we hit the streets for the most part. I had some Atomic Balm left in the locker so I but that on my quads and it really helped. Feeling pretty good today, nice to be back running. Still have a bit of a cough but that's it. Didn't eat much at all today, halfway through the run I was getting pretty hungry. Pretty much a useless day, unable to really get moving too quickly or feel like it's helping the legs at all, but at least we got some miles in. Headed back to Fivos' dorm to warm-up, where my legs started burning from the Atomic Balm. Not a complete loss of a day but definitely didn't make much headway towards getting into shape. |

| Friday: |
Took the day off, hopefully this'll help me out. Laid down on the couch at 8PM last night, got off it at 9:30 this morning. Went to the MedCenter to get checked out, doesn't look like strep, they just told me to start taking Tylenol Cold regularly and wait this thing out. Came home and spent most of the rest of the day on the couch. Feeling rundown and completely apathetic. By the end of the night though I started feeling a lot better. Got a good meal in me, the first in a while, and most of the symptoms had subsided. Still feel a little dizzy occasionally though. Supposed to be getting some nice winter weather tonight and tomorrow. |

| Thursday: |
Attempted a fartlek with the distance crew. Supposed to be 5M of 800m accelerations, didn't really pan out. The first two 2:20s were decent, nothing spectacular though. Couldn't get going on #3 and #4 was just pathetic. Bagged it after that one, jogged back from Arsenal, cut across the JFK Bridge and came down Mass Ave from Harvard Square. Legs were feeling really tired, it hurt to breathe and my head wasn't in it today. I wasn't feeling so amazing during the day, but not as bad as it was on Tuesday. Wasn't expecting to fall out of the workout like this, it's pretty depressing, but at least it's still early. Stretched, showered and went home afterwards. Need to get healthy and start feeling better. |

| Wednesday: |
Reservoir with Summit Ave add-on. Ran with Digenova the whole way today, definitely not hauling as I was just feeling my way back into it, wanted to make sure I was healthy again and that the wheels wouldn't fall off half way in or anything. Driver left us on the way down Summit, so it was just Diger and me most of the way. Nothing too major happened, legs feeling a little fresh but the quads are sore for some reason. Probably from jumping back into it so abruptly. It'll pass. Last night was focused solely on getting rid of the illness, hit the couch at 7PM with 2 Quarts of the Antioxidant Team, wound up taking about a 2 hour nap during "Saving Silverman" and woke up during the Illinois-UNC game. Watched the whole game from the couch, then went to bed. All told, I stayed on that couch for about 4 hours, and slept for 8 more last night. HR dropped down to 46, so that's a good sign that I'm on the road to recovery. Starting taking some Ibuprofen, which really helped to alleviate the headaches and puffy eyes I'd been suffering from. Today it was just a sore throat and a painful cough. I think I've got this pretty well on the run now. |

| Tuesday: |
Fake Fresh. Woke up this morning with the HR up at 51BPM and a sore throat. Started feeling worse throughout the day and had no energy at all on the run. Shuffled through the run and called it a day. Stayed in the shower for a good while before buying some OJ and heading home. Weather's starting to turn colder, snow on the ground this morning and temps down in the 20s. |

| Monday: |
4x5:00 fartlek along the river. Pretty solid run today, ran pretty well for my first workout back. Hit the first one pretty solidly, got the legs moving well and wound up pretty tired. Hit the second well too. Started out sluggishly on the third one though, running heavy and took a bit to get into it, didn't get moving too well at all really. Didn't hammer the end either. Number four wasn't a whole lot better. Got moving a bit better, dropped Khatch about 45 seconds into it, but got stuck at both lights, pretty bad luck today. Had 2 minutes left after the 2nd light, managed to get moving pretty well again, but not hauling quite as well as I would have liked. Finished up a bit before the typical end point, was taking the rest a bit easier and waiting up for guys after intervals though, so don't know how much that affected things. Dark coming back along Storrow, don't know why the streetlights hadn't come on. Just Khatch and Driver finished up with me, most of the freshman turned back earlier and Brulois had to drop the kids off at the pool. All in all a good day though, given that it's day #2. |

BC with Summit add-on. Flew back from Spain, got in around 5. Put on the shoes and out the door about 6:30. Feeling really good, nice to stretch out the legs after travelling for about 15 hours. Hitting a really solid pace, moving at a good clip the whole way. Thought about turning the legs over and really smoking on the way home, but decided against it, largely because we have a fartlek tomorrow. Good thing I didn't try, because my legs wound up getting a little tired on the way back, nothing devastating but it's pretty obvious I've tapered and then taken some time off. Need to get in shape. Wasn't excited about leaving Spain, there was really nothing to look forward too back in Boston. November Miles : 211 |

| Saturday: |
Really good day today. Pretty much adjusted now, not too tired anymore. Went to the Reina Sofia, a modern art museum, saw some Picasso and Dali, then walked around a bit more. Had an awesome steak for dinner, really cheap too, probably under $10. Saw some of Madrid at night, and was getting on the subway to come home when I got pickpocketed. One guy dropped some coins and went to pick them up, but instead grabbed my pants down at my ankles and started shaking them. When I realized what was going on, three guys ran for the door of the subway. Kathryn and I chased them down, they pointed to another guy running a different direction. We caught him but he didn't have anything on him. Long and short of it is, filed a report with the police, but I'm out $200 and 100 Euros (shouldn't have been carrying that much though, stupid,) credit card which has been cancelled, driver's license and MIT ID. Everything but the money's replacable, not a big deal. Just wish I would have kicked that dude's face in when he was grabbing at my pants. Not going to count chasing that guy up the stairs as mileage. |

| Friday: |
Slept in late, which I got harassed for by Kathryn. Walked around a lot, saw parts of Madrid, the Prado and the Retiro, a big park. Again, no exercise other than walking. Made a couple turkey sandwiches for dinner, to replicate the leftovers I missed out on. |

| Thursday: |
Not really sure which day Thursday was, got on a plane Wed. evening and it was Thursday AM in Spain when I got off. Of course, my plan backfired, I was uncomfortable on the plane and couldn't sleep as much as I needed/wanted to, so I was pretty tired in Spain. Went to a bar showing the Packers' Thanksgiving debacle, watched the second half. No nothing today. |

| Wednesday: |
60 minutes in the pool. Stayed up late finishing up some PSets, slept about 2 hours and got to the pool at 7:30AM. I noticed last night that it's considerably easier to stay up working when you aren't running 12-15M a day. Anyways, this is all part of my plan to avoid jetlag, since I'm flying to Spain tonight. I figure that when I get on the plane leaving Newark at 8:25PM I'll be tired enough to fall asleep, and then sleep the whole 7 hour flight, waking up at 9:25AM in Spain and adjusted to the new time. Of course, this could backfire horribly. Regardless, I got in a pretty good workout this morning, didn't feel it right away, but after I took a shower my legs were feeling pretty worn out. Calves started cramping up about 40-45 minutes in, only happened a few times though, nothing horrible. The pool was a lot more crowded than I imagined. I expected I'd roll in at 7:30 and it'd just be me and the lifeguards, but nope. Swim team was there, using half the pool, and I got the last open lane of the rec swim area. The first 30 minutes took a pretty long time, but the next half hour went fairly quickly. This active rest stuff is pretty cool, hopefully my legs won't be aching for a week plus when I start up again this time. |

| Tuesday: |
Jumped on the Angry Zach for half an hour while the team was doing more testing. Didn't really enjoy it at all, but at least I got a little work in without any pounding at all. Hit some strides afterwards, felt really, really weird after being on the elipitcal. Stretched out, hit the trainers quickly and went to the season ending banquet at Coach's place. |

| Monday: |
45 minutes in the pool with Nolan. Strapped on the belt for the first time since the injury during indoors last year. Planning on trying a little active rest at the start of the week, then taking some time away during the Turkey Day break. Nolan swam for about 20, then joined me for the remainder. Time passed a lot quicker running with someone. Afterwards I headed upstairs to support the indoor team during their testing, 55 and 400 today. Strange that things are starting to get rolling there already, this year is passing quickly. |

| Sunday: |
Nada. First day off in 26 weeks or so, I guess I'll be ok. Hope I don't lose too much fitness. Haha. Really wasted the day though, got up early because I couldn't sleep then spent it not working. But I wasn't even doing something enjoyable to procrastinate, just sitting around watching the crappy games they had on TV and following the Pack on NFL.com. Should've taken a nap. |
