Week 13

2/17 - 2/23

February Total=197 46
Saturday: HA 0
Friday: What a disappointing end to the season. Ran out fast 4:42 first mile, thought I had the stuff. Was sitting behind the group, just hanging on, telling myself not to fall asleep, to stay in contact, all that good stuff, but I fell asleep anyways, lost contact and didn't recover til I had 2k left to go. All in all, the race was good, but not good enough. Cooled down from the Armory to home. 8
Thursday: Ran BU Bridge Loop. Legs a little sore during the run, but stretched 'em out on the stride and they got to feeling better. Well, it all comes down to tomorrow. 3
Wednesday: Ran to Elliot Street Bridge with Nolan. All day today my legs felt were right on that edge where they could be feeling really, really good if I can take care of them tonight. During the run they got kinda sluggish, but walking home they felt a lot better. Hopefully a lot of sleep tonight will push them into the feeling good area. Run was nothing exciting, field for Friday is essentially the same from Div 3s, with a few additions, such as Vardarro. Getting ready to roll. 7
Tuesday: 6x4; 6x2. Supposed to run 62-63s, 30s. Ran 63, 2, 4, 4, 5, 5. Then ran 28-30 on the deuces. Had 100m rest between the intervals and 400m between the two sets. I don't know what was up with the fours. The first 200m I'd come through in 31, right on pace, but over 50m my legs would lock up and the rest would be a struggle. The 200s I was feeling great, coasting the backstretch, accelerating through the turn and holding through the line. Didn't ever cut fully loose. I think the sleep was catching up to me (only 5 hrs last nite) but thats the price I'm gonna pay for getting an education at MIT. 7
Monday: Ran UMass Boston / Ocean Loop with Nolan today. Its down to just Nolan, Feldman and myself, but Feldman was in NYC. Feeling a little fatigued, not too excited about running today. Kinda laid back, just relaxing. Speed work tomorrow, so that should be hard. Gonna get on top of stuff and prep for Friday's five k. If it comes down to running well or school, running well is gonna be emphasized this week. 9
Sunday: Ran Longfellow-->Arsenal after Daytona finished up. That race took FOREVER to end. Thought a lot about Saturday's race, basically I didn't run aggressively. I don't think it should concern me more than that. I'm in shape, and you gotta take the good races with the bad. Run today was good, raining a little and hands were cold by the end. About 6:40s. 12

Week 12

2/10 - 2/16

This week wasn't all that great. School's getting into full swing, but I'm not in school mode yet. So that hit me hard by the end of the week. I need to start getting ahead of the curve. The workout on Tuesday wasn't anything spectactular, and the race on Saturday was a thousand miles from it. It would seem to be a waste of a week. But they can't all be awesome, maybe my legs are still reeling from the 77M two weeks ago. In any event, I got one last good shot at Ada, so this coming week has to be all about getting shit done early and keeping the legs in good shape. February Total = 151 56
Saturday: Horrible end to a bad week. Thats the way I'd describe it. Full run down in the Race Summaries, but basically, I got to the front, got passed, dropped off the face of the earth and ran SLOW. Way too slow. My head got messed up or something, because I definitely should have never run that slow. I don't think I got scared, but something didn't go right. I need to figure it out before All New Englands or I'm not going to Ada. 7
Friday: Ran an easy three through Lewiston, Maine. Legs feel ready to go, hamstrings a little sore, so they're tightening up my back, but I don't imagine that will screw me up. I need this race to go well, and probably haven't focused as much as I should have. 3
Thursday: Harvard Bridge-->Eliot St. Bridge. Good run, legs feeling loose enough, my mind is getting focused. I have to plow through 18.03 and 8.02 PSets tonight, but after that, its all 5k on my mind. I'm playing out different scenarios, trying to decide whom to run with, when and how to drop them, etc. I'm healthy again, so really no problems at all. 7+
Wednesday: Jamaica Pond with Nolan and CBW. Legs somewhat sore from workout, but nowhere near last week's aching. Wasn't psyched up for this run, it was just kinda there, midweek blues maybe. Maybe I'm realizing that IAP is over and real work is starting up again, ugh. Mentally prepping for Div 3s. Its Nolan, Cruz, myself, Reutimann for 5k. Need a plan. 8+
Tuesday: 6x4; 6x2. 62,3,3,3,3,3; 29s for the deuces. Feeling fresh and fast on the twos, but reluctant to burn 'em up. I still remember flying around the track with Schoewe on deuces soph. year then running an ass race at State the next week. Not willing to destroy this taper, gonna take it chill. Some blowhard accused us of doping or EPO on the LetsRun.com message board. These fools just don't know. 3 hours of practice will help out your hemoglobin too, you know. 7
Monday: BC with a loop around the Reservoir. Coldest day in awhile, but really not that bad, compared to what I've run in before. Starting to plan out Saturday's 5k. Running pretty quick, but CBW and Albert ran away, went with Nolan and Liyan the whole way. Legs feel good, junk in the throat is essentially vanquished, but I'll keep up the OJ and Echinacea, need to buy some more of that. 9.5
Sunday: Longfellow-->North Beacon St. Bridge. Pretty good run. I'm definitely fighting something, I'm not sure if I can call it sickness yet. There's junk in the back of my throat, but I've been hydrating and drinking a lot of OJ, tonight I'm buying Sucret's to help with the sore throat. Coach cut the morning runs from my weeks now, so mileage will drop, hopefully along with times. Ran the Esplanade part (13.2M) in 81 mins, approx. Legs sore the whole time, but just that aching where you can feel them, but it doesn't disrupt anything. Good day. 13.5

Week 11

2/3-2/9

Coming in to this week, I knew it was gonna be a long, hard one, but I was ready for that. I never got too thrilled about the meet, almost felt like training through it. The workout on Tuesday went really, really well for me, that'll be huge when it hits my legs just in time for Div 3s. So this week was basically about training hard, getting the miles in. I hit 77, my highest mileage ever, so I'm glad about that. It'll probably start to come down soon, but I'm taking back up there for outdoor. Trying not to let school get me down, holding on to the EXCITEMENT generated at BU last week. February Total = 95 77
Saturday: MIT CoEd Invite. Ran alright, but nothing astounding. Cooled down to BU to watch the DMR. WOW! 3:00, 49+, 1:58, 4:03. Monty went off and just flew around the track. Then ran back to catch the rest of the meet. Capped off a really good week, I'm looking forward to the coming month, should bring good things 7
Friday: PM BU Bridge Loop. meet warm up. Didn't feel very good, got queasy a ways into the run. Tkaing it easy today, mentally gearing up to just blast, not think. Race is too short to strategize. Hope I'm not getting sick, my throat feels kinda funny. Looks like I'm buying OJ at Star tonight. Rounding up miles, cuz I rounded down yesterday. 4
Friday: AM Pretty straightforward. Logging miles, weather nice. Legs a bit fatigued though. Gotta blast on Sat. 4
Thursday: PM Fresh Pond. Pretty good run. My legs loosened up a ways into it, but around 40 they tightened up again. I can tell they're loosening up though, recovering. Looking forward to blasting a good 15 on Saturday. Nolan thinks Bartonicek will be in our race, but I haven't seen any lineups. We'll just take it as it comes. 7
Thursday: AM Slept a lot (7+) last night. Thank God for online lectures. At about Lafayette Bridge on MIT side, my legs locked up bad. I got through alright though. 4
Wednesday: PM Wow! My legs are SORE. Sore and stiff. Ran Docks today, hung back cuz my legs were aching up a storm. I guess if I had felt like it, I could've pushed it, but I definitely didn't feel like it. Coach said we'd be recovered tomorrow, and I'd tend to agree with that. He also laid out the rest of the season race-wise. Priorities are 1) Score at Div3s 2) Qualify for nationals 3) Set frosh record in 3k. I completely agree with that. Its easiest to score in the 5k at Div3s, so I'm running there. Depending on my time, I may run the 5k again at NEIAAA at BU to qualify. Then I can run 3k at ECAC to "sharpen" by blasting it. An impressive 1500 on Saturday may change coaches' mind, if he thinks I've got the speed to light the track up at Bates. We'll see. 8
Wednesday: AM A good run. Legs still tired from the workout. Aching. This should be a good mileage week. One day through the term. 4
Tuesday: PM 2x800, 6x400, 6x200. 2:11, 2:12 (w/ 200m rest). 64, 63, 63, 63, 63, 65 (led #1,4,5, w/ 100m rest). 30-31 for 2s, with 50m rest. 400 between 8s and 4s and 4s and 2s. This workout was hit me hard after the cooldown. Immediately after, I was feeling alright, but then my legs got REALLY sore. Good workout. I took control on #4 and 5 of the quarters. Trailed Nolan and Feldman during the 8s. 2s weren't bad, we were opening our 4s with 31s, so turning those out wasn't hard. I reread what I wrote this morning, wow, I need to watch myself when I write Round Ups directly after running. Sorry that was so strange. 8
Tuesday: AM Cold as all hell. Weather.com says sub-20. Thats not cold. I'm getting soft. Run went well. 6.001? BRING IT! 4
Monday: PM Jamaica Pond. Feeling alright, legs still tired and a little sore. Term starts tomorrow, so at least I'll have some rest (what?!?!? not really). Ran most of the way with Albert and Liyan. Nolan was there for part of it. Getting ready to get my ass kicked tomorrow. Mornings start again tomorrow as well. Did a Science Museum Loop after. 12
Monday: AM Slept from 3 til 11. Took a nap last night. Prepping for the term. 0
Sunday Ran straight down Commonwealth with CBW. Went out for 50 mins, came back in 45. Ran to the Newton City Hall. Haven't been able to accurately measure route yet, need to get a real map I guess. In any event, it was a good run. Legs really tired by the end. Tried to push the way home, got hungry, but didn't really matter. Training is going really well, I'm still pumped about everything. So psyched about running. 15

Week 10

1/27-2/2

Wow, what a week. So close to being an awesome week. It started out really poorly, I didn't know how the rest of my season was going to wind up. I was distracted during the workout, ran it like shit. Work Week was robbing me of sleep during the night and relaxation during the day. But it wound up being a very good week, simply by running well on Saturday. That race completely energized me. Coming into it, I was pretty sure both frosh records were out of reach and I wasn't going to Ada in March. I saw my season slipping away. But now, things are falling into place. If I can drop 8 secs in the 5k, I think I'll have a good shot at making Nationals. Only one way:: MORE MILES. February Total = 18 75
Saturday: Greater Boston Championship at BU. 5k in 14:56. Missed provisionally qualifying for nationals by a tenth of a sec. Read about the meet in the Races section. In short, a good, breakthrough race for me. Two before and after. Excited. Ran Longfellow-->Footbridge late. 6:30-6:45 pace. Feeling good. I'm so pumped. 14
Friday: PM BU-->Harvard Bridge Loop and Warm Up Loop Backwards. Feeling fresh. Didn't sleep as much as I had hoped to last night. Finished 18.02A, exam pretty easy. Trying to gear up for race tomorrow. Got the seedings from coach, Grieco (Griego?) from Brandeis isn't running. Wonder what's up with him, haven't seen any times from him. 6
Friday: AM Slept. Damn I'm lazy. 0
Thursday: PM Fresh Pond around the pond. Ran with Liyan and Craig. Snow on the ground, didn't hinder us too badly. Got moving most of the way. Feeling really good, couldn't feel the ankle at all. I'm glad for that. Could've really taken off and pushed it, but ran fast enough anyways. 63 mins the whole way. January Total = 323 10
Thursday: AM Got up to run, got outside and the ankle was hurting. Could've probably done it, but didn't want to risk it. So I went home, took some drugs and iced it. 0
Wednesday: PM Good Day Today. Ran BC and around Reservoir. Cooled down with a Science Museum Loop to go home, to round out miles and make up for AM. Ran with Nolan, Liyan, Billing and Ed Keehr. Good run, felt comfortable all the time. No ankle problems. Been icing and taking drugs. Should be fine. 13.5
Wednesday: AM Slept 0
Tuesday: PM 4x8, 4x4, 4x2. 2:14, 15, 16, 19. 64, 5, 5, 4. 29-31 on the 2s. Didn't run very well. Wasn't willing to push through the pain/stiffness/discomfort. Head wasn't in it. Fake Fresh Pond cooldown, no ankle problems. 12

Tuesday: AM Slept 0
Monday: PM Trainers diagnosed my injury. I've got an aggravated ligament under my ankle bone, my shoe rubs it. A simple foam pad over the area relieves the discomfort. Fake Fresh Pond without pain. 5
Monday: AM No run, I could feel the ankle. 0
Sunday Ran w/ Craig to Franklin Park, Jamaica Pond, then Fake Fresh Pond through Harvard Yard. Good run, 98 mins. Whole way felt good, felt easy. Finished fast and iced the ankle. 14.5

Week 09

1/20-1/26

This week had a really good middle. That workout kicked my ass all over the track, but I think its the best workout I've ever run. I didn't bring it at Williams though. I had the race under control, blinked and everything had gone to hell. Good work this week though, it'll pay off soon. January Total = 268 70
Saturday 3k @ Williams. 8:48. Dropped off Nolan & Reutimann, passed Feldman with five laps to go. He caught me over the last hundred meters. Should've been faster. 7
Friday: PM Wore old shoes, felt fine. Only did BU Loop. Should've gone further. Didn't want to risk it with the ankle. I'll take care of it on Monday 3
Friday: AM No run. Ankle hurt too much. Think it's the shoes 0
Thursday: PM Fresh Pond with Monty, CBW and Nolan. Legs feeling better, but still don't want to speed up. It'll come together by Saturday. Frosh record is the goal. Mentally I'm getting there, I think. 7
Thursday: AM Legs recovering. Not feeling so trashed. 4
Wednesday: PM Docks with Nolan and CBW. Legs pretty sore, hard to speed up. Just running today, very slow, prepping for Saturday, mentally etc. Trying to Recover 8
Wednesday: AM Legs REALLY sore. Ran REALLY slow. 4
Tuesday: PM 6x8 (2:15, 16, 16, 16, 18, 21) 4x4(65,4,4,4) Felt pretty good. Faded near the end of the 8s, a few seconds behind Nolan and Feldman. 4s weren't that bad. Had to run home to get briefs, so longer warm up. This was a good workout, I was willing to hammer down and take control. Eating dinner with Hanson and Verbal at the Delts afterwards, both hammies cramped simultaneously. That's discomfort, let me tell you. 11
Tuesday: AM Lots of ice, slowed me down by 2 mins. 4
Monday: PM Jamaica Pond with Nolan. Took it really easy, just relaxing. We have a good track workout tomorrow, going after frosh record on Saturday. Ran to & from practice today, because of no AM run. 10
Monday: AM Nothing 0
Sunday Longfellow-->Arsenal. Good run, moving easy, after legs loosened up. Snowed last night, but it was all clear today. Ready for Sat. 3k. 12

Saturday: 1500m: 4:08.79; 100m: 2:43.75. The 15 was alright, lost focus in the middle for 1.5-2 laps. 1000 is too short for me. I"m not up for quick races. Science Museum for a cool down. 9
